The invaders were up closer to the fortress while the archers on the battlements were shooting all those that were making their way closer.
The men carried ladders with themselves as they laid then over to the breach that was in the place where the gate once stood.
The arrows that were fired could not hold them back for so long and in a distance Zhao Guo was being drawn nearer.
The closer that he got to the gate, the bigger his image grew and the Emperor could make out the warlike figure approaching in its majestic seat.
A few of the warriors managed to make their way towards the bridge and were trying to run through, a few archers on the ground fired to keep them away.
"First line, attack and hold them back." The Emperor said as he unsheathed his sword and raised it in the air.
The first line of the cavalry ran past the horsemen and attacked the warriors that were at the fairly big breach killing them in their few numbers.
The population of invaders that were flocking in was being controlled and the defenders of the fortress were barely losing any numbers.
The five thousand men stood their ground against the remaining ten thousand, the other five thousand of the invaders were fallen.
The sides that were being violently struck by boulders that were catapulted by the invaders were weakening and sending other holes into the structure.
"Burn the catapults." The Emperor ordered and the archers sent their arrows ablaze and shot the wooden weapons.
"Add fire to the water to hold them off." The emperor added and the soldiers on the battlements poured more oil and paraffin onto the water.
The ladders of the invaders were being burnt and some had to be withdrawn as the archers on the battlements shoot the arrows down onto their invaders.
The invaders held their shields high for defense against the arrows when the commanders ordered that stacks of hay be thrown towards the invaders.
The invaders had their archers shielded and shooting some of the archers on the battlements.
The Archers on the battlements held shields and cast down the hay stacks that had been partially soaked in kerosene.
The archers had their arrow heads set ablaze and fired at the hay stacks to scorch the invaders.
With minimal success in defense, the invaders were thrown into a tantrum just to get into the view of the defending archers who shot them down.
The story was somewhat similar on all sides of the fortress and the reinforcements were taking close to ages coming to their aid.
The two thousand archers had been fairly reduced but the number was still favorable as the massacre of the invaders seemed to grow worse.
"Your Majesty, their defense is almost impenetrable and the five thousand soldiers we asked for reinforcements are about five kilometres away." One of Zhao Guo's generals said.
"We have exploited most of their resources and it is only a matter of time before their arrows are finished.
When they are done, they shall be forced into open combat and they shall have to either come to us or we move in on them." Zhao Guo said.
"We are out of arrows." The defenders shouted as they faced the Emperor for a solution.
"Without the arrows, we won't hold them back long enough for reinforcements to arrive and the paraffin is slowly getting exhausted." Xiang Mao said to his father.
