~Charlotte's POV~

"Jesus Charlotte, what's up with you and Mr. Filters? Did you know anything about him that might have made him act that way around you?"

"The guy has issues and yes. I knew him before." I said as I opened the door to my office.

"What history though," Matthew asked, " but please don't tell me if you're not comfortable with it." He added quickly, maybe upon noticing that he was acting nosy.

"He's my ex-boyfriend Matthew. We broke up years ago." I said now turning to him.

His eyes widened and his mouth almost fell to the ground.

I scrunched my eyebrows, ignored him and sat on my office chair.

"Uhm... could you get me an Iced lattè Matthew?" I said breaking the tension that was building in the room.

"Of course Charlotte." He said turning to get out.

"Large please."

He nodded and gave me a weak smile before closing the door and disappearing into the hall.

Immediately he closed the door, I heard someone knock on my door.

I then heard my office phone ring and picked it up, "Sorry Miss Walters, he just passed the reception and he didn't really have an appointment. I tried to tell him but he wouldn't listen." My secretary, Susan, said really fast.

"Who are you talking about?"

Another knock.

"Jake Macmillan."

Another knock.

I immediately got goosebumps on my hand.

I put the office phone down and stood up from my chair to get the door for Jake.

I opened the door slowly only to see a green pair of eyes looking at me. They seemed to lighten up when I appeared before him.

He smiled at me and I gave him a weak smile, "You're secretary is really annoying. She wouldn't let me see you. 'Only if you have an appointment' " he imitated her voice in a high pitched voice in the last sentence.

I laughed at his terrible attempt on immitating Susan's voice. Still the same Jake, funny in his own weird way.

He put his right hand in his pocket and raked his hand through his hair. "Do you mind If I could come in?"

"No. Not at all" I moved for him, giving him enough space for him to come in.

He came in, examining the vast office,he seemed facinated by the huge stacks of books and folders at the corner of tlmy office. He then looked at the large window, behind it was a whole view of New york.

"Great office...and nice veiw."

"Thanks." I said as I walked towards my desk.

"So, what did you want to see me for?" I asked nervously as I played with the necklace that was hanging on my neck.

It was partially my necklace and Ethan's.

Ten years ago, Ethan had given me a ring, representing our never ending love. I wore it even ever since we broke up. However, I felt weird when I had put the ring on because people would cast glances at me thinking that I was alredy married.

And so, I made a necklace with it. It helped me calm my nerves down during troubled times or something that would make my heart beat two times faster than the normal heart beat rate.
