"Wait, GONE?!" Neil yelped, "Waduyamean, gone?! Like, gone, gone? Dissappeared, gone? Please, please, not passed away gone! Right? She's not that kind of gone-" Ari cut him off.
"Whoa, slow down people. Roxy's gone? Where?"
"I... d-don't know where... she just..." Audra stuttered.
I couldn't believe it. I didn't know Roxy real well, only met her a couple hours ago. But still. She couldn't have just disappeared... right? I took a deep breath.
"Okay, what happened?" I asked Audra. She took a deep breath too.
"So, right after you left, we just kinda sat there in silence. I tried to start up conversation, so we had some small talk for a few minutes. But then she interrupted me, stood up, and ran to the front door. She flung it open, and ran out front. I was very confused, so I ran after her.
"I got out to the front, and Roxy just stood there, staring up at the stars. I asked her if she was okay, and she didn't even look at me. Her only reply was, 'There it is. I hear it.' And then she just took off into the night. I yelled at her, trying to get her to come down, and she didn't. I flew after her, couldn't find her, like she'd teleported. I searched town, still couldn't find her. I finally found you guys, and now I'm here."
"Wait-- did she say 'I hear it'? What did she hear?" I asked. Audra shook her head.
"I'm not sure. Although now that I think about it, there might've been a slight whistle..."
"There are alot of animals that make whistles, but the most common would be bird. Avians are freaking part bird. A whistle could be literally anyone or anything," Ari explained.
"Not. Helping," I told him through gritted teeth. He shrugged, as if to say well, what do you want me to say? I looked back at Neil. He was pale and panting, slowly beginning to hyperventilate.
"You okay? Do you need a hug?" I asked. I went over to him and put my hands on his shoulders.
"It's just... R-Roxy... I've known her forever... her disappearing, it's just... I just..." And right then and there, he started to cry. I know I'm shorter than him, but I tried my best to hug him.
"You'll be okay, Neil-eil, and so will Roxy. We will find her. Alright?" I told him. My god, I sounded like I was his mom. But who cares. He's my best friend. He sighed.
"Alright, Rocko." And he calmed down.
I let go, and I noticed how the other two were staring at us. Audra looked almost confused, and Ari was trying not to look at us.
"What?" We both asked at the same time.
"Nothing," they said in unison. Well that was odd.
Silence.
"Well," Audra said, "should we go get some sleep?"
"Yeah, probably. Let's go back to my house," Neil offered.
"Sure," I said.
"I should probably go back to my place though," Ari said.
The four of us flew off, three of us back to Neil's house, hoping no one realized who we were. And thankfully, no one did.
We got to Neil's, and Keith got back just a bit later. I slept with Audra in the guest bed, Neil slept in his room with his siblings (apparently he had siblings that were out with their friends earlier), and obviously Keith in his. It took me a while to fall asleep, but eventually, I did.
