Chapter 7

"The Grounders cauterized the wound. Saved his life" Clarke says looking at what was put on Jaspers wound

"Saved his life so they could string him up for live bait. Garden of Eden this ain't" Finn says

"This is infected. He could be septic. Any progress on using the wristbands to contact the Ark?" Clarke asks Monty but Monty's eyes are glued onto Jasper "Monty?" I say and he looks at us

"That would be a firm no" Monty replies "My mother would know what to do" clarke says

The hatch door opens and Wells enters "How's he doing?" Wells asks us

"How does it look like he's doing, Wells?" Clarke snaps at Wells "Hey, I'm just trying to help" he defends himself and Jasper continues moaning

"Ok. You want to help? Hold him down" Clarke says and Wells and I both hold jasper down as Clarke heats up a knife

"I'm not gonna like this, am I?" Monty says

Jasper screams loudly as Clarke applies the red hot knife to his wound "hold him still I need to cut away the infected flesh" Clarke tells Wells and I

The dropship hatch open and Octavia and Bellamy walk in "stop your killing him" Octavia yells at Clarke "O, she's trying to save his life" I tell her.

"She can't" Bellamy says "back off" Wells tells Bellamy "We didn't drag him through miles of woods just to let him die" I tell him.

"Kid's a goner. If you can't see that, you're deluded. He's making people crazy"Bellamy says "

Sorry if Jasper's an inconvenience to you, but this isn't the Ark. Down here, every life matters" I tell him walking toward him getting mad

"Take a look at him. He's a lost cause" Bellamy says "

Octavia, I've spent my whole life watching my mother heal people. If I say there's hope, there's hope" she says and I continue to glare at Bellamy

"This isn't about hope, it's about guts. You don't have the guts to make the hard choices. I do. He's been like this for three days. If he's not better by tomorrow, I'll kill him myself" Bellamy says and turns to leave. "Octavia, let's go" he says "I'm staying here" she says and Bellamy leaves "asshole" I mutter under my breath

"Power-hungry, self-serving jackass. He doesn't care about anyone but himself. No offense." Monty says directing the last bit to Octavia "Yeah. Bellamy is all that. But he also happens to be right" Finn says.

Clarke and I walk out of the dropship and I notice a young girl trying to sneak out of camp "hey I'll catch up with you later" I tell Clarke and walk over to the girl.

"Hey what are you doing" I say to the girl and she spins her head around "going for a walk" she says "alone, there's grounders out there" I tell her

"I know but with that kid dying I just need to get away for a bit" she tells me "I'll let you go" I tell her and she smiles "but on one condition, I come with you" I tell her and she frowns "I don't need a babysitter" she tells me "too bad" I tell her.

"I'm Sophia by the way" I tell her as we begin walking into the woods "Charlotte" she says.

As we're walking Charlotte begins randomly running "Charlotte!" I yell at her trying to catch up with her but by the time I do I see her standing there with Bellamy and Atom in front of her.

"Sophia, you brought a little girl out here what the hell were you thinking" he tells me "she was going to leave camp alone" I tell him.

"Why'd you want to leave" he asks Charlotte "with that guy that was dying I just couldn't listen anymore" she tells Bellamy.

"There's grounders out here it's too dangerous for a little girl" Atom says

"I'm not little" Charlotte says

"Ok then" Bellamy says and pulls out a knife and gives it to Charlotte and then pulls one out and hands it to me.

"But you can't hunt without a weapon, every killed something before" he asks her and she shakes her head "who knows maybe your good at it" he says "Bellamy!" I say "what she's gotta defend herself" he says

After hunting for a while we couldn't find much we then hear a horn "grounders" I say to Bellamy and he looks around.

We then see this huge cloud of yellow fog coming towards us "run" Bellamy yells and we all begin running "come on there are caves this way" Bellamy yells.

I hear a twig snap and see Atom fall "Atom" I yell and was about to go after him until Bellamy grabs me "come on" he says running and I follow him Bellamy notices me slowing down a little so he grabs my hand and I grab onto Charlottes next to me Bellamy then pulls me into a cave along with Charlotte.

"I have to go help Atom" I tell Bellamy and was about to walk out until he steps in my way "you're not going anywhere" Bellamy tells me.

"Your not the boss of me" I tell him trying to shove past "Atom could be dead from who knows what that was but if you go out there you could be too Atom also could've made it to a cave" he tells me and I nod my head and take a seat in the cave.

Bellamy then walks over to Charlotte "how about you get some rest" he says and she nods her head and walks into the corner of the cave and lays down to sleep.

Bellamy sets up a fire in the cave and I go sit by it and try to keep warm I feel my body shiver crap I left my jacket at camp. Bellamy notices and takes off his jacket and hands it to me "here" he tells me "I'm fine keep it" I tell him "I wasn't offering" he says and I take it and put it on "thanks" I tell him and he nods his head and walks to the other side of the fire I lay down and fall asleep.

"No!" I hear Charlotte scream so I shoot up and Bellamy does the same "Charlotte wake up" I say shaking her and her body shoots up and Bellamy and I squat down to her.

"I'm sorry" she says "does it happen often" Bellamy asks Charlotte sighs giving us an answer.

"What are you scared of?" Bellamy asks but she doesn't answer "You know what? It doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what you do about it" Bellamy says

"But... I'm asleep" Charlotte says.

"Fears are fears. Slay your demons when you're awake, they won't be there to get you when you sleep" he says

"Yeah, but... How?" Charlotte asks

"You can't afford to be weak. Down here, weakness is death, fear is death. Let me see that knife I gave you" Bellamy asks and Charlotte pulls out the knife

"Now when you feel afraid, you hold on tight to the knife and say 'screw you im not afraid'" Bellamy says and hands the knife to Charlotte.

"Screw you I'm not afraid" she says but Bellamy gives her a look telling her she can do better.

"Screw you I'm not afraid" she says with more confidence.

Bellamy pats her knee "slay your demons kid. Then you'll be able to sleep" he says and she goes back to sleep and Bellamy walks over and sits down resting his back against the wall of the cave and I go sit next to him.

"Who taught you that" I ask him "my mom used to tell that to Octavia when she would have to hide when there were inspections" he tells me and I nod my head and lean it against the wall and shut my eyes and drift off to sleep.
