POV: Anita Johnson.
"River..." I called.
"Yes, Anita." He replied looking at me.
"Why are you taking them?" I asked and his eyes darkened.
"You wouldn't understand..." He mumbled looking away.
"Because there is nothing understandable about them," I added.
"I have a lot going on right now!" He added.
"Maybe not enough because this is an additional problem."
"You need help," I added reaching out for his hand.
"I think we did for the night!" He snapped packing his books.
"Good luck on the English test," I said smiling weakly.
I walked towards his door and he mumbled my name. I turned to look and he gently cupped my face and fused our Lips.
"Don't worry about me, I'm a grown man." He mumbled and let me out.
A grown man, Wow!
* * *
"Mom I am home!" I shouted from the sitting room.
"I am in the bathroom sweetie, give me a sec!" She replied.
I stripped off my clothes and lay on my bed.
"You are home pretty late today." She said raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, was helping a friend with English," I explained.
"Your big heart reminds me of your gran, she was just like you." Mom said seemingly hiding her pain.
"You always say that, Are you okay Ma?" I finally asked.
"There is something I want us to talk about." Mom said not looking at me.
"First, I am truly sorry on behave of your dad, you know for sure that he won't apologize." She offered a weak smile.
"Second, Your father's business trips are too much, we have grown apart since they have started. He doesn't show me, love, like he used to..." Mom paused.
Dad is hardly ever home and I kind of knew how lonely mom has become.
"So what's the plan mom?" I had to ask.
"He never listens to me so..." Mom said with pain in her voice.
"Mom!" Nick called.
"In here son!" She replied.
"Melissa called in sick, Can you please cook on my behalf? " He pleaded.
"I'll do it." I offered.
I want to cook dad's favorite meal maybe then he will notice me. I want him to appreciate me! Pasta and mince it is! P.S I am not a master chef but I do put my mind to every meal I prepare.
I placed the plates in the dinning table and soon mom and dad joined me but both sat miles apart. Mom is right, dad seems to be acting weird lately.
"Can we pray please!" I popped the silence bubble.
We held hands and said grace. I really love it when we do that it highlights how close we actually are.
My attention was buried on the special meal before me. My conversation with River kept getting replied in my head and I can't find a logical explanation on why he can't get his hands off me.
"There isn't enough cheese on this meal to complete the taste, there is too much spice and The mince is..." Dad said but mom interrupted before he could finish
"Just be grateful Matthew! She tried her best!"
There goes my appetite my dad hasn't said anything nice!
He just busted my bubble of happiness. I might not be the best daughter, I might be confused about my sexuality... but I am still pretty fragile, his comments hit the core of my little heart.
"You prepared an amazing meal baby." Mom said making me creak a smile.
A lot has been happening but mom still seems to have her shits together. She's just the best. Let's forget her shouting a little.
"Thanks for the meal Anita, Excuse me! " Dad stood up and left.
He did not say a lot but what he said put a smile on my face I guess my mission is accomplished, dad noticed me! I cleared the table and headed to my room.
Kim: Can we catch Ice cream tomorrow?
::Sure.
Kim: Great. I got to go, Bye I love you.
Kim does things to me that no one else understands. I don't know how love should feel like but if it's how I feel when Kim smiles at me then I want it forever. I want to jump to her command forever, laugh at her jokes forever, just forever.
I lay on my bed restless while fantasizing about "forever".
