This half of the story takes places a couple of months later. Rachel has her own room in the mansion now so Colby has his old room back; Devyn is officially the owner of the house making it impossible for vampires to enter, excluding the clan; and finally, everyone is so close that they're like family. It's just a shame that everything is about to go south, and fast.
I quietly snuck around Colby's bed to get to the door. It was basically still light outside and i wanted to see Rachel before she left. Since she is only sixteen, we managed to find her a high school that she goes to, against my will at first, of course. Although everything seemed calm in the Edward realm and we didn't really have any threats. I sped down to the kitchen where I could hear her eating cereal and found her just sitting at the table in basic jeans and a crop top writing something in a notebook. "Hey, Rache." I said as I sat next to her, nodding at what she was doing. I felt like a mother.
"Hey, why're you up so late?" She questioned in confusion considering it was about eight, which was getting late for her. She was usually gone already.
"You, of course. How are Sven and Peter? Are they keeping their distance or has someone noticed them?" I referred to the two of the clan we'd picked to watch over Rachel when she wasn't at home. She'd agreed obviously but they didn't at first. They were next on the trusted list after everyone in the house.
"No one in particular." Rachel shrugged and smiled at me. She went back to doing what I assumed was homework while I watched. There wasn't a single sound in the house from any of the others so I knew they were all asleep. I could smell each of the girls from the kitchen and sense all of the guys. Eventually, Rachel packed everything away in her backpack, placed her dish in the sink, and gave me a gentle hug that just melted my heart. "I'll see you later, Ness." She said as she walked towards the front door.
"You better." I teased back, watching her go. I could see Sven and Peter standing casually across the street waiting for her but not so close that it looked obvious. But then the door was shut and I was left alone in the house of other sleeping vampires. I sped back up to Colby, lying down in his bed. To my surprise, he instantly pulled me into him like he was already awake. I just cuddled more into him, closing my eyes and slipping away into sleep.
