"CAS? CAS!" MAISIE YELLS. Being the closest to the angel, she runs up the stairs to his side. She drops down to help him up, grabbing his arm as firmly as she can.
"Maisie, you're alive." He groans, fighting back his pain and misery."Of course I am, why wouldn't I be?"
"Nothing," the angel shakes his head before groaning. "Maisie, go." He tries to push her away.
"Cas, no- what's going-" In the next moment the angel attacks, swinging his arm at her head which is forcefully slammed into the wrought iron railing.***
Standing in front of Náli was a young girl in an elegant dress, her hair a dark brown and flowing down her shoulders.
"You are fascinating," Náli says as she walks further into the room, closing the large doors behind her and sitting on the single bed fit for a princess. "Not even twenty-four ago, you were born in the body of a baby destined to die and now you're a... six-year-old?"
The girl turns to Náli, her eyes striking and determined. "I'm hungry."
"Yeah, yeah, I get it," The demon rolls her eyes. "You want a soul, I don't have one -the hunter baby is holding that for me- and you ate the last demon who were set to babysit you. They're lucky you're gonna come in handy in making my human doppelganger miserable otherwise I'd set you free and watch the world have you."***
Maisie blinks, gasping, her eyes immediately pulling in and out of focus before snapping to the angel attacker. "Twenty-Four hours. All I want is twenty-four hours without death or injury. Is that really too much to ask?" She groans. In the few seconds of unconsciousness she had, the rabid angel was able to hit her across the head and throw her down to the war room table below. Her whole body ached as Sam helped pull her up, watching Dean help put a now willing and cooperative Cas into chains.
"Cas was spelled." Dean explains to Maisie. "Rowena spelled him with that attack dog spell she's known for."
Maisie groans, grabbing hold of a nearby weapon to fidget with, still clutching her ribs with one hand. "Are you kidding me?" When Maisie realises the weapon she grabbed was her collapsible no staff, she begins to pace, flicking her wrist to trigger the bo staff to extend, spinning it around in her hand "I find out I'm cursed, I die, the darkness is released into the world, I come back to life apparently still cursed -but at least no longer coughing up my own lungs- with very little memory, I'm having weird vivid dreams apparently- Honestly, how could this get worse?"
Sam clears his throat. "Uh... we were just talking... the baby is missing."
Maisie slams down the bo staff, looking at Sam coldly. "What?"
"Uh... the baby that made Jenna become a murderer? That had the mark of Cain on her shoulder."
"I know-" Maisie groans and starts pacing again. Her chest was burning, every step she took killed but if she didn't move, she'd start having a panic attack at the level of new cataclysmic information she's received in the last week. "Shit. Max- crap. I haven's spoken to him in god knows how long."
"Maisie-" Dean tries to stop her pacing. The girl was still spinning the bo staff in one hand, patting down and looking for her phone with the other. He clicks his fingers in her very distracted face. "One problem at a time, okay?"
"Max will literally come barging in here if I don't tell him I'm alive by-" Maisie looks down at her phone. Several messages and even more calls. To her horror it wasn't just from Max but also his sister Isabella and all four of the other hunter kids she considered her family. "By two days ago."
"Okay, sit down." Dean takes the phone off of his daughter. "We will call Max after you've had a full eight hours and we've figured out what the hell is going on here."
Eyes narrowed as if the young girl had never left her teen years, she refuses to sit. She does however, stop pacing and stop swinging the weapon in her hands. Instead, she uses it as a walking stick to aid her body still in pain from her previous fall.
"Okay," she sighs, taking a moment to collect her thoughts. There were thousands upon thousands of things she wanted to figure out right now but she knew the most important. "The darkness. Baby darkness- whatever you wanna call it... how the fuck do we stop it?"
"It is still a baby, right?" Dean speaks up, looking around. His daughter's dubious shrug goes unmentioned but most certainly not unseen. "I mean, the Darkness I saw was an adult. So it still has to, uh, grow up." Dean points out.
"The Darkness is almost infinite power." Cas weakly points out. "I'm not sure what 'growing up' means in this case."
"Well," Sam leans forward in his seat. "God kicked this thing's ass once before, right?"
"Yeah, it'd be nice if he put down the Mai Tai and show up for work." Dean scoffs.
"I wouldn't count on it." Cas mumbles. Maisie rolls her eyes and shakes her head.
"It's possible he's around!" Sam tries to reason. Maisie scoffs at first but then double-takes, staring at the look in his eyes. As if he too knew something the group didn't. "Closer than we think, you know?"
"If God was around... if he actually cared about the world and about humanity, would he let the mark of Cain run wild?" Maisie leans further on the staff for support. "Or when Cas decided he'd eat the leviathan and become the new god - did he do anything then? What about with me? I'm supposed to be a literal miracle or some crap. That the fates aligned juusst right and gave me a supernatural prophecy and yet I died yesterday. A demon murdered my mom when I was ten. I literally lived in forests for a year. God exists, I don't doubt that. But he doesn't care. And the darkness being released from its eternal cage isn't going to stop that. Thinking that he will isn't only naïve, it's dangerous"
The three men stare at Maisie for a long while before Dean stands up and Maisie's shoulder in one hand, the staff in the other. Maisie was panting now as if that rant was equivalent to hiking Mt Everest. "Sit down... or I'm gonna start treating you like a child and force you to take a nap."
"Bite me," Maisie snatches the weapon back but nonetheless listens. At least, she leans against the edge of the table. Dean rolls his eyes in exasperation, shaking his head as he sits back down. Cas goes to walk up to Maisie, to comfort her or at the very least heal any wounds he may have given her. Instead, he was stopped short by Maisie's staff pinning is chained hands to the table.
"Sorry about those, Cas," Dean speaks up, sighing at Maisie's behaviour and wondering if perhaps he was the one cursed. That he was being punished for not dealing with her teenage years the fist time around so must instead deal with them when she's a young adult. "Till we know how to fix you, you're still a bit of a wild card, you know?"
"I hate to point this out, but you both know who we might need to help deal with the Darkness," Sam speaks up. Maisie stops focusing on her weapon and instead snaps her head to watch the conversation intensely.
