Chapter 3
I reached for my phone. 4am. Hmm, I woke up later than usual. I looked to my right and sure enough Niko was beside me. He was sleeping peacefully and he didn’t snore. I studied him then, noticed how long his lashes were. Noticed how long his nose was. Snap out of it, Mika.
I shook my head and began to slowly get up, afraid I might wake him. Funny, I don’t remember putting my underwear and bra on again last night. As soon as I sat up at the end of his bed I felt a hand on my wrist.
“Stay.” Was all he said. He didn’t even open his eyes.
“I have to go. I, uhh, have work today.” I lied. Wow, I’ve done this a lot of times but why was it hard for me to lie smoothly to him? He let go of my wrist and sat. I got up from the bed and put my clothes and shoes on.
“At least give me your number, Mika. I’d really like to take you out.” He said, holding up his phone. I sighed, might as well get this over with.
“Listen Niko, last night was amazing but I’m really not into the dating scene. It was a one off. You were amazing last night but I’m not into commitments right now.” I strapped my heels and made a move to grab my purse. I looked over to Niko who was still sitting up on his bed and what I heard next wasn’t what I was expecting. He burst into fits of laughter! What the hell? Did I miss something?
I looked at him confused and furious. Was something on my face?
“What’s so funny, pretty boy?” I growled. His laughter died down a little, but he was as red as a tomato which was adorable.
“You are and thanks for the compliment.” He got up and winked at me. He grabbed a towel and came face to face with me, bending down a little so he was incredibly close. So close that I could feel his breath on my neck.
“We didn’t have sex.” He whispered, his voice low. My eyes widened.
“What are you talking about?! We were on the bed, I was in my underwear! What do you think happens with two people on a bed?!” I exclaimed. I was furious at how he was taking this so lightly! I mean I don’t remember much last night so there was a possibility that we didn’t do anything. But come on, he’s a man he was bound to have tried something!
“Oh I can name a lot. Sleep, eat, rest, play board games, watch tv on—“ before he could continue, I cut him off.
“What happened last night then?” I asked him, not making eye contact. This was a first of me asking what happened. Usually I remember.
“We were about to do things until you broke down and cried. Something about my blonde hair reminding you of someone and why you are how you are now. Also, something about a bet that—“ I cut him off again.
“I did what?!” I could feel tears brimming in my eyes. I can’t believe it. He must be kidding right? But how would he know about the bet or Alex’s hair color. No, I shook my head. I can’t let this take over me again. I cleared my throat and grabbed my purse and headed for the door.
In a split second, Niko was blocking my way from the door. He looked at me with worried eyes. Wow, this is what I hate. This is the look which I could do without. Exactly the reason why only Taylor and Kisha are the only ones who know what happened to me back then.
“I’m sorry if I upset you. If it’s any consolation, I wasn’t lying about taking you out on a date. You might not remember but last night we just talked and there was no flirting involved, and I had fun.” He said, caressing my arm but not in a sexual way, more in a friendly and comforting way.
“No need to apologize. I’m sorry for taking it out on you last and I’m sorry you didn’t get to score.” I said, inching away from him. “Now if you excuse me, I have somewhere to be.” I gently pushed him aside and walked out of the door.
