Chapter 7

I stared at Nikolai trying to make sense of everything. He had a girlfriend. He told me after we kissed so passionately. Ha, and to think he was asking me why I had such a strong distrust of men. Guess I was right, men are ALL the same.

I composed myself and laughed bitterly at the irony. I laughed at myself for being so stupid thinking he was the guy who could prove everything wrong. Right. He looked at me nervously.

“Why are you laughing?” he asked.

“It’s just so funny!” I managed to say in between fits of laughter. I stood up and grabbed my phone quickly texting Kisha to meet me at the usual club in 20 minutes. I then clumsily tottered to my room.

“Which part do you find amusing?” he asked, trailing behind me. I turned sharply and faced him with a serious look on my face.

“You.” I poked him in his chest, giggling. He looked dumbfounded and I rolled my eyes.

“You’re funny. I’m funny. You’re funny asking me about my massive distrust in men when you’re leaving proof, honey. I’m funny because I fell for the charm and your suave appeal.” I shrugged my shoulders and walked back to my room.

“Okay look—“ he began but I didn’t let him finish. I couldn’t. What was that saying? Shame on you if you fool me once, shame on me if you fool me twice? Or was that a song?

“No, Mr. Carver. You look. It was a moment of weakness for the both of us. How about we both just forget about what happened and be professional about it. You were right about not mixing business with pleasure. Plus I honestly don’t think we’d work out anyway. You’re a settle down kind of guy, I’m a play around kind of girl. Don’t sweat it.” I smirked and winked.

I held my hand out, “Deal?” He stared at my hand hesitantly but shook it. I nodded and looked at him, not breaking his gaze.

“Now if you excuse me. I have to get ready to go out, you can let yourself out.” I didn’t wait for an answer and gently closed my door. When I heard the main door close, I slumped to the ground and buried my face in my hands.

How stupid did I have to be really? I thought I buried these ‘feelings’ deep down in me. I shook my head and stood up. I need a shower to clear my thoughts. It took me 10 minutes to get ready for a night out with Kisha. I picked an off shoulder white ensemble and black leather mini with black wedges.

Pleased with my appearance, I walked over to Alec who opened the car door and shut it when I was situated inside. Just then my phone rang, it was Nikolai. Sighing, I picked it up.

“Yes, Mr. Carver? To what do I owe the pleasure?” I asked sarcastically.

“Good evening, Ms. Jameson. I would just like to remind you that the meeting with the board members tomorrow starts at 10am.” He said cheerfully. Well that makes one of us.

“I am fully aware and will be there on the dot. Anything else I can be of service of, Mr. Carver?” I said, sickeningly sweetly I might add.

“That would be it, Ms. Jameson. See you tomorrow.” With that, he hung up.

The car came to a halt in front of the club. The first thing that I observed was that there were only 2-3 paparazzis outside the club. Another thing is that there was no line outside. I walked up to the bouncer and he flashed me a toothy smile. I smiled back.

“Hey, why are there no lines tonight? I know it’s a Sunday but it’s still unusual.” I asked.

“There’s a private party going on. Some teenage boy rented the place out. He made it clear though that celebrities can come right in. With that said, you can come right in, Ms. Jameson.” He shrugged.
