Chapter 8
I got comfortable with my new routine this week. Heading to the gym from 7-8am, then to the office at 9am, and going home and talking on the phone with Alex. Speaking of Alex, he seems to be really genuine nowadays. I can’t help but feel happy when I’m able to talk to him. Everything seems to be falling in place for me again, but my guard is still up when it comes to him. I’m still deathly afraid that he’d go back to being the douche he was back in high school.
Working alongside Nikolai isn’t so bad either. We’ve grown closer to each other, and have agreed on being friends and colleagues. I noticed though that every time I’d bring up the topic of meeting his girlfriend he’d always flinch, which is really weird. Aside from that, everything has been fine and normal.
“Hey, someone’s here to see you.” Taylor said through the intercom.
“Who is it? I don’t have a scheduled appointment today.” I asked.
“I’ll just let him in.” He said.
A few seconds later the door opened, revealing Alex. He looked so handsome with his red button down tucked into his black slacks. He flashed me a toothy grin and walked to my desk. I stood up and hugged him.
“Hey, how are you?” I asked, sitting behind my desk. He held my hand and rubbed the back of it with his thumb.
“Not so good. I’ve been missing you. Are you almost done with work?” he asked. He looked really nervous which is weird since he’s always been his cocky self around me.
I smiled reassuringly. “Well, what did you have in mind?” I asked him flirtily. I can’t help it okay? It’s like basic instinct to me to flirt.
“I was wondering if you’d like to grab a meal or something.” He stated, biting his lip down nervously. Again with the nervousness? I smiled and nodded.
“Hey Tay, I’m heading out now.” I told Taylor. He nodded and gave me a wink, which earned him me rolling my eyes.
We got in Alex’s car and drove off.
“Well aren’t you the cheery one.” I said, glancing at him driving. He looked excited and happy, bobbing his head to a phantom beat and tapping the steering wheel. He glanced in my direction, smiling brightly.
“It’s all thanks to you.” He said proudly. I couldn’t help but blush at that. I’m still getting used to this whole new romantic Alex.
“So where are we going, hotshot?”
“It’s a surprise. You’ll love it.” He continued before I could cut in. “No more questions, we’re almost there anyway.” He smirked.
“How did you know I was going to ask that?”
“That’s how well I know you, Mika.” He smiled.
We drove for another 10mins chatting and joking happily. I felt so light and comfortable, maybe this is what they describe people feel like when you’ve met the right person for you. Or more like meet again in my case. We stopped outside a quaint little restaurant and got out of the car.
It was amazing inside, with plush red seats surrounding similar tables all around. There was a fireplace too and beautiful paintings. It felt so warm and cozy inside, I couldn’t help but smile internally at how romantic the setting was.
“Table for two, Mayer.” Alex told the waiter as he held my hand. The waiter ushered us to a table near the fire place.
“This place is beautiful, Alex. Where’d you find it?” I asked him while I took in the restaurant.
