Chapter 11
“Shh. Just let it all out.” He whispered.
That’s all he needed to say for me to cry out again. My shoulders were shaking violently and I felt him tightening his arms around me. A sense of calm spread around me, and I just let my emotions take control again.
After a good 30mins of bawling out again, I finally calmed down. I looked back up at him and he smiled down at me sadly. It wasn’t the look of pity, it was more of...understanding.
I gently pushed myself away from him, wiping the tears away.
“Why are you here?” I asked, not meeting his gaze. He was silent, as if thinking of the right answer.
“I...really care about you, Mika.” He said, quietly. My eyes snapped back to his and I could see the sincerity in his eyes. No, I couldn’t trust him. He’s been lying to me the entire time.
My eyes narrowed at the thought and I stood up abruptly. The sudden movement shocked him and he shot up as well, concern in his eyes.
“Go home, Nikolai. I’m fine.” I deadpanned, clenching my fists.
“Why are you mad at me, Mika? What did I do?”
“You didn’t do anything! You’re perfect, okay? Now leave me alone!” I pushed him with all my might but he didn’t even budge. His eyebrows were scrunched together, clearly exasperated.
Instead of leaving, he took a step forward and held my wrists tight. I thrashed, trying to loosen his grip, but he wouldn’t budge.
“Let me go!” I screamed.
“No!” he retorted.
“Why?” I cried out, falling on my knees.
“We need to talk about this, Mika. Don’t shut me out.” He pleaded, getting down on his knees in front of me. I felt hot tears siding down my cheeks, I blinked and more fell. How could he make me this vulnerable?
“Talk about what, Niko? There is nothing to talk about.” I deadpanned, trying and failing to get out of his hold again.
“Tell me why you are shutting me out Mika! I thought we were doing good yesterday, then you just bolt. Can’t you see how much I care for you?” he pleaded again, his tone getting more desperate.
“Are you deluded? I don’t trust anyone apart from my uncle, Taylor and Kisha. You don’t look like any of them.” I scowled at him, glaring.
“Don’t lie to me Mika. I know I got through to you yesterday. Why are you acting like this now?” he growled, letting go of my wrists.
I badly wanted to run now that he freed me but for some reason I stayed stationary in front of him, staring him down. Why should I leave? This is my field, my place.
“You want me to trust you? You’ve been lying to me, Nikolai Carver! Don’t give me that bullshit about caring for me because if you really did, you would tell me the truth.” I was panting. My eyes felt sore from all the crying I’ve been doing. Damn, I hate this feeling!
“Lie about what Mika?” he asked softly, the desperation still clear in his voice. He made a move to hold my hand but I stepped back, avoiding it. He clenched his fists and brought it back to his side.
“Lie about caring about me! Don’t tell me that when you have a girlfriend. You men are all the same. You all think you can play with a girl’s feelings then leave her to deal with the pieces? Well newsflash buddy, I’ve learned my lesson! You aren’t fooling me anymore.” I said in a low tone, my blood boiling even more with every word. He needed to hear this. He needed to know that I’m no pushover.
