Chapter 10
“You’re kidding right?” I asked dumbfounded. This guy is the epitome of impulsive.
“Do I look like I’m kidding?” he tried so hard to hold back a grin. It made me laugh at his attempt. He held out his hand, and I bit my lip staring at it. Ah, what the hell. I need this today. I accepted his hand and he led me to his car.
I gave him directions to get to the field. It was an hour’s drive away. In the car, we were laughing and chatting, playing eye spy, or anything we could think of. I felt so light and carefree with him. An hour of driving and we finally arrived. I couldn’t help the smile that made its way on my lips seeing the very familiar field.
Not waiting for Nikolai, I threw my wedges in the car and ran across the field. I heard Niko screaming my name and laughing, I laughed with him but kept running until he caught me. He tackled me down and we were on the grass, him on top of me, and we were trying our best to stop laughing. I looked at his hazel eyes, he looked so happy and young. I couldn’t help but run my hand through his unruly blonde hair.
When I realized I did this, I cleared my throat and took my hand back. He must have gotten the hint because he sat up and got off me.
“So this is the infamous field?” he asked, smirking.
“Yep.” I said, making the ‘p’ pop. He was looking straight ahead and I couldn’t help but study him.
His blonde unruly hair, made him look like a handsome school boy. His hazel eyes were serious and contemplative but still had a sparkle in them. The sun reflecting on his eyes made it look a bright golden color. It looked so captivating, I couldn’t help but scoot closer to him.
“Didn’t your mother teach you it was rude to stare?” he smirked, still looking forward.
“I wasn’t staring.” I said, rolling my eyes trying to hide my embarrassment.
“Deny all you want, but we both know that’s a lie.” He winked and stood up.
“Where are you going?”
“Sitting on that rock seems better than here on the grass.” He said, walking to the big rock. I followed him and sat beside him.
“You used to come here and sing with your father huh?” he asked, glancing my way before averting his eyes forward again.
“Yeah, he took me here because I loved to sing but was always shy about people hearing me. He would take me here so he could listen to me without the risk of me getting scared if people will here me.” I smiled, remembering my father.
A tear drop fell down my cheek. Nikolai wiped it off with his thumb, cupping my cheek with a hand. I turned to look at him and I gazed into his eyes. I felt warmth spread through my body. I wanted to be in his arms and just stay there forever. But, he had a girlfriend. I wiped the rest of my tears away, causing him to drop his hand and return it to his side.
“Sing for me.” He said softly.
“You’re crazy yeah?” I asked laughing softly. He smiled at me and made my heart flutter.
“I might be.” He smirked and shifted his body to face. “Come on. One song. I promise I won’t laugh.” He smiled encouragingly.
I don’t know what it was about him but I felt my barriers fall down and my fears disappear. I closed my eyes and hummed the tune of I’d rather be with you by Joshua Radin.
Sitting here, on this lonely dock
Watch the rain play on the ocean top
I felt a breeze pass us, and suddenly I felt braver than ever.
