* FLASHBACK

Several years before, in highschool...

Oliver's POV

  It's Valentine's Day and I'm still looking for a gift for my girlfriend. She is that type of girl who doesn't like expensive and fancy things. So that's the problem. Who could have thought that a simple present could bring so much headache?! But this is Abigail, she prefers things with sentimental value and this makes her special and I love her even though she makes me lose my mind walking from store to store.

  Walking through the shop-windows, my eyes stopped on one and then I knew what gift I would buy for Aby.

  After some time, I arrive and I park my red Jeep Gladiator in front of Abigail's house. I can't wait to see how she will react. I take the bouquet of flowers from the back seat, leaving the big surprise for a little later and I get out of the car. I only make a few steps, because what I see stops me immediately. Kyle, my girlfriend's best friend, is in front of her house with a heart shaped box of chocolate candies and a teddy bear in his arms, knocking at the door. I don't know what to believe... Is she cheating on me?...Do they have a secret relationship hidden under their name as best friends?...Is it just an illusion...or am I overthinking and it's not what it seems?

  Suddenly, the door opens and the short silhouette and fragile, at appearance, of my girl appears in the doorway. I can't see her face clearly from here, nor can hear what they are talking about, but the way she accepts the gifts and the way she embraces him as a sign of thanks, sinking her face into his chest as she does with me, causes me nausea. Now I understand. Everything was a lie.

  At that moment I threw the flowers I was still holding in my hand and I got back in my car. For a few moments I was stuck in the driver's seat still shocked by what I saw, but a small burk awakens me suddenly from this numbness.

"I'm so sorry little boy...it seems that your owner is no longer available!"

"WOOF-WOOF" barks sadly the puppy as if it understood what he is talking about.

"Don't be sad..I'm here..I'll be your buddy , don't worry! I won't take you back there!"The puppy wagged its tail hearing these words and I pet him.

"Let's go home, little boy...we have nothing left to do here.." I said starting the car, leaving.

Abigail's POV

  I invite Kyle to come into the house, still feeling dizzy from what he told me earlier. I can't believe he has a crush on me. He's my best friend...

  The fact that he decided to confess his feelings is cute and I respect him for having the courage to do it, considering that Oliver and I are a couple. Talking about him...he had to be here by now. I say this because he texted me a few minutes ago, telling me he is on his way to my place. Why does it takes him so long?!

  I set aside for Kyle to come inside, looking down the street. OLIVER'S CAR! Wait..why is he leaving?!

  Abigail ran to the street, trying to stop him from leaving, but the girl, despite her efforts, ended up watching how the car slowly disappear from her vizual area. She had remained stony in the middle of the street. Her eyes were stinging, tears being about to fall on her pale cheeks. Aby barely managed to recover from the blockage and return home, but in her way she found the bouquet of flowers that had been thrown down by Oliver. Tears began to fall from her eyes, being overwhelmed by the situation and not understanding what happened.

  After then, Abigail tried to call him, to text him, but he didn't answer her. Even in the breaks between classes, at high school, he totally ignored her, eventually talking to her with a cold attitude that could have frozen the water, answering briefly and harshly to Aby's questions.  *
