Iris. The goddess of the rainbow and the messenger of the Olympian gods. The goddess has been often described as the handmaiden and personal messenger of Hera. Iris, a goddess of sea and sky. Her father Thaumas "the wondrous" was a marine-god, and her mother Elektra "the amber" a cloud-nymph.

The rainbow's arc was most often seen between the sky and the seas, the goddess replenishing rain-clouds with the water from her fathers world. The sea.

Though she never had a story of her own, she appears as an errand-running messenger. The goddess of rainbow usually described as a virgin goddess.

Her name contains a double meaning, being connected with both the Greek word iris "the rainbow" and eiris "messenger."

The goddess is often visualized in Greek vase paintings. She's a beautiful young woman with wings, along with a heralds rod, and even a water-pitcher within her grasp. She will sometimes be serving nectar from her jug, pictured along side Zeus and Hera. Or she will merely be the rainbow, likely in the middle of the sky and the sea.

Iris is a goddess with few tales, but she's bright and beautiful, with a warmth only few can fully understand.
