Shaking Things Up...

Chapter Twenty.

"Yeah, that's it. Left, right. Front back. Cartwheel, hips forwards, shake that butt." Kristin, the head cheerleader shouts to the squad (which now officially includes me) over the music. She presses the pause button on the stereo and sighs dramatically, putting a manicured hand on her hip.

"Ashley! How many times do I have to tell you? It's left right on three, not two." she huffs and then holds the bridge of her nose with her free hand.

I chuckle but cover it with a cough when she looks up. Her gaze lingers on the crowd of boys who are gathered at the door, watching the 'fit' girls do cheer practice. She bites her lip and turns back to us, looking like she's in physical pain.

"Okay Dee! That was really good. Now its time for you to shine." she says, with a pretty smile and I step froward from the first row.

I try and pull down the uniform that we're entitled to wear but the skirt stops above mid-thigh, showing way to much leg. But if you can't beat them, join them, right? So, that's what I've been doing for the last three hours while we've been practising a new cheer/dance, working it.

"You know what to do, don't you?" She asks.

I nearly say 'I'm not deaf' but I can nearly feel Sarah burning a hole in the back of my head, telling me to be nice and keep to the plan.

"Of coarse." I chirp with an innocent smile which she grins back at.

"Okay, everybody!! Back to positions! Lets start from the beginning." she orders and we all go back to our spots. Sarah, Sapphire and I are all at the front, us turning out to be really good dancers, and me being the only one who can do six back-flips in a row then finish off with a round off.

"One! Two! Three!" she shouts before pressing the rewind button and pressing play at the start.

'Push Push' by Kat Deluna ft. Akon, comes on and we all start to dance...or cheer. Thank god, this dance, doesn't need pom-pom's, because I was really dreading those furry things. They freak me out....

I shake my ass as much as I can and see the guys staring at me from the corner of my eyes. What catches my eye is that Prescott is now at the front of that group, smiling slightly at me. I give him a quick shy smile, before doing a cartwheel, along with a few other people in the squad that I can't remember their names.

The whole group ends up at the left end of the hall 2/3 through the song and it's time for the finally. The finally being me.

I turn so I'm facing the wall while everyone carries on dancing and run towards it, kicking my foot on the wall and pushing off it, into a back flip, I do two more then go into a crab, do a handstand, then take my hand off so it's a one handed handstand. I start switching hands really fast as the music gets faster and the beat really quick. I flip back onto my feet and do a front flip, a cart wheel and I'm not in front of six cheerleaders, in a pyramid, looking perfectly still and smiling happily. The song is about to end so I do one last round off and then push myself into the splits and smiling like a true, chirpy cheerleader on speed ( which I think half of these girls might be on, the amount of effort they put into everything).

All the boys start to cheer and hoot while I push myself up from the splits and stretch my legs a bit, getting some cramp in my left leg.

"You okay?" A familiar voice asks and I snap up from rubbing my knee. I turn to see Prescott, standing there in all his glory.

"Yup!" I pop the P and he smiles.

"So...Cheerleading?" He asks, a small frown appearing on his adorable face.

"Um...Yeah..." I say cautiously. He raises an eyebrow at me and I distinctly remember Sarah telling me not to tell anybody about our little plan here.

"Can you keep a secret?" I ask, glancing about the gym. It seems that most of the girls have gone to get changed...or make out with some guy. Who knows these days? Kids....

"Yeah.." He mumbles. I grab him by the hand and drag him over to the table with water on top where no one is standing. I pour myself some water and take a huge gulp of it, sighing gratefully as it flushes down my throat.

"So, the secret?" Prescott asks, snapping me of out looking into the water cup and wondering what water is made of.

"Oh! Um, yeah. I hate cheerleading." I tell him and he frowns further.

"Then why are you doing it?" Aww, ain't he adorable with that confused face?

"Well..." I mumble, coming closer to him so I can whisper in his ear.

"Well?" He asks when I pause.

"It's a secret." I laugh, jumping back and leaning against the table. I laugh at his annoyed face. He seems to calm down a little and comes closer, pressing me against the table.

"So, how about that date?" He asks and I suddenly get shaky. His knees are against me and his chest is pressed up to me, making it hard for me to breath. Not that he;s heavy, well he probably would be if he wasn't holding his own weight but it's because of the minimum of space between us.

"You coming?" someone shouts from the door, snapping us out of our bubble and making us jump back.

Sarah is standing at the door, becoming annoyed at the amount of time I'm taking.

"Um,,sure. I'll see you later.." I turn to Prescott and he smirks.

"I hope so." He says before I turn away.

I glance back at him while heading to the door and can't help but think one thing. 'How am I going to handle one full date with him , if I can't control myself being close to him for a minute?'

I guess only time can tell.
