Chapter 1

 The Assignment ch1

 Jamie Marie Morgan twenty years old. No next of kin. Five ft tall ninety two pounds. No boyfriend, any social life. It seems no future. Died of boredom writing these stupid obituaries.

Jamie deleted what she had just written on the computer. She had been with the paper for three months now. Besides the obits the only real reporting she had done was a couple garden clubs and when the magician came to town. Jamie looked at her watch still and hour before she could go home to her boring apartment.

"Hey Jamie the chief wants to see you if you have a minute from your daydream."

Jamie flipped Sam the bird then headed to the Chief's office. She stood outside the door and knocked, having forgotten to do this once had given the chief the opportunity to chew her but for and hour.

The Chief was no nonsense, and to be honest rude. If he had a redeeming quality it was that he was a great newspaperman.

"Come in Jamie dear come in have a seat can I get you a soda or something?"

Uh oh thought Jamie the Chief wants something.

"No thank you Chief what can I do for you?"

"I have a very special assignment for you Jamie it will be the scoop of your young career. As a matter of fact I expect this story to make you a superstar."

Jamie knew there had to be a catch why would he give her such a story she decided to call him on it.

"Come on Chief what's the catch who do I have to kill. You know I am just a rookie and not dry behind the ears yet as you so often remind me?"

The Chief smiled he always knew Jamie was a smart cookie.

"Here's the deal Hun it's really pretty simple. This old guy died and left a town millions of dollars under some conditions. If they follow these conditions every person in the town will get a great sum of money and the town itself a tidy sum."

"So what are the conditions Chief sounds like a pretty good deal for the town what are the old guys conditions?"

The Chief cleared his throat. "Well it seems the old guy was pretty peculiar Jamie. He wants every woman in the town to accept males as there superiors for one year. The men in the town will have the right to spank them if they do not mind."

"Wow chief that's a bit retro. I bet the women are pissed that the men are even considering excepting this offer?"

"Nope every woman in town has agreed, it's a lot of money Jamie and there is more. It's not just the men being in charge of the women. How they dress how they act. Every woman and girl child in the community under thirty looses her bathroom privileges for the year."

"What your shittin me Chief and they agreed to that?"

"Yes they did Jamie like I said it was a lot of money of course the children had no choice. It begins in two weeks when it starts the town will be locked down with security. Nobody but the men can come and go. The town's men will truck in whatever supplies are needed for the stores and what not. Only the community people and a few special moderators will be in the town."

"Wow Chief that's funny they sure must want that money. So what do you want me to do go there before it starts and write a story about it."

"No Jamie I want something more from you I want you to go undercover there for a year and write that story. It may earn you a Pulitzer."
