Chapter 23

 The Assignment ch23

The crowd was getting rowdy when the Sheriff stepped in. Not sure of what he would charge them with he arrested both Jamie and Jessica. He told Mary to go home, and he would bring them there.

So there it was Jamie and Jessie each got there first ride in the back of a police car. Two young girls had been stuffed and cuffed. Jamie just looked at Jessie she had not expected the towns reaction.

He pulled in their driveway then turned the girls over to Mary.

"These girls are under house arrest Mary. At least until I can figure out what the charges are. I just don't have the facilities to keep baby girls in my jail. There will be and officer watching the house."

He then got in his car and drove off. Both girls ran to their Mom and she held them while they cried. Jamie was crying the loudest and apologizing.

Once she had the girls inside she gave them both pacifiers to calm them. Jessie had gotten so excited and scared she had wet her panties. Mary diapered both girls and continued to try and calm them down.

"Jamie you did nothing wrong honey. This town is just being paranoid and there is not a law on the books that stupid Sheriff can charge you with. Now I am going to make both you girls a bottle and your going to bed."

"Mommy can I call the Chief first I need to tell him what I did so he can fire me."

Jessie spoke up "Honey I will call the Chief if its ok with you and Mom. Why don't you let Mom put you to bed."

Mary nodded and picked Jamie up carrying her off to the nursery. Jamie was both too tired and upset to argue.

Jessie talked to the Chief; the first thing he told her was that Jamie was indeed not fired. He also told her he would have a team of lawyers up that stupid Sheriffs ass by daybreak.

Jamie was a sleep in Mom's arms when Jessie went to the nursery to tell her what was going on. Mommy put her in her crib then walked over and took Jessie by the hand.

She listened to what Jessie had to say then offered her a bottle and a lap. Jessie crawled in her Moms arms and took the bottle sometimes it was not so bad to be babied a bit.

Mike was down at the Sheriffs office yelling at him and the mayor.

Then the Sheriff got a call from one of the Chiefs lawyers. He threatened and unlawful arrest lawsuit and promised he would take every dime that town had coming. When the Sheriff got off the phone. He had the officer he had posted at the house. Knock on the door and tell them the arrest had been a mistake, then go home.

Mary smiled at the officer thinking how much she liked the girls Chief. But deciding to wait until morning to tell the girls.

Meanwhile Scott's mom was trying to get her son into bed. She had been surprised he had used the bathroom the moment they got home. His mother realized that now that he knew how there would be no more potty chairs. She did insist on diapering him for bed.

Scott was upset and worried for Jamie and Jessie. He told his Mom he wanted to do something to help. But was not sure what he could do. Scott's mom cuddled him as he reverted a bit to the little boy inside of him and began to cry.

Soon she had him nursing his bottle, and rocked him to sleep. She new for a fact this would probably be one of the last times she would get to do this. Her baby boy was finally growing up. But he was not quite ready at least not tonight.

Meanwhile back at the Sheriffs office there was and impromptu meeting of the town council. It was almost two am in the morning.

First the mayor chewed the Sheriff out for cuffing the girls. He was scared silly about the lawsuit. "What the hell were you thinking Dan. What exactly were you planning on charging them with wet diapers?"

Then one of the other council members stepped up.

"Calm down mayor, we were all about stunned by Jamie's announcement. The question is what do we do just kick them out of town?"

That's when the town Pastor spoke up.

"Kick them out of town for what, Jessie for being and outstanding teacher and Jamie for being a precious little girl. So what if she deceived us she is adorable and a treasured member of this community. I for one could care less if she writes a story. What have we got to hide?"

The Mayor having regained his composure, and remembering he was a politician got political.

"Honestly the girls future in the community I do not think should be decided by us but the community itself. We could have a town meeting tomorrow after church?" The mayor was covering his ass if he kicked them out and the community disagreed he could get voted out of office.

The other council members agreed and the Pastor agreed to make the announcement at Church.

They then all headed home too bed.
