The Assignment ch15
A week had passed since the awful night when Jessie was almost killed and Michael was blinded.
Things were anything but back to normal. Mike had gotten out of the hospital. He did not go back to his house but moved in with his mother a retired schoolteacher. Mike still despite his mother's objections refused to see anyone. He was becoming a vegetable refusing any therapy. He simply sat in a chair all-day and listened to music. He had not even bothered to learn his way around the house. His mother had to feed him and even take him to the toilet when he had to go.
Jessie was a whole different problem. No one was sure what had happened to her system. Every since the awful night she had become bladder incontinent. After days of trying to wear panties
She was now in diapers full time. The town actually hired a nanny to care for her and Jamie.
Even worse Jessie had started to regress. She was using a pacifier and spent a lot of time playing with Jamie's toys while her niece was in school. At first she tried to hide this side of her from Jamie. Then again she made no effort to return to school and teaching. The truth was Jessie had no idea why she was wetting herself and played with the toys to take her mind off Michael.
For her part Jamie liked her new Nana and was fully aware that Jessie was regressing. Jamie was not at all surprised when they placed a crib and changing table in Jessie's room. Nor was she surprised one morning to find Jessie sitting in her own high chair.
For her part Jamie continued to work on her story and send the emails back to the Chief. From his letters she could tell he liked what he was getting and was always thirsty for more. In truth the Chief was afraid for Jessie's mental health, but did not know what he could do.
Time past and before Jamie knew it Thanksgiving was upon them. Jamie was very excited about the concert the Chorus was planning for the community, the day before the holiday.
Jessie was now more like a little sister to Jamie. For her part Jamie had tried several times to get to see Michael but he always refused.
Jamie knew that Jessie blamed herself for Michael's blindness and was convinced that Michael did too.
Jamie arrived at school early the day before the concert. She made her way to the homeroom hoping that Scott was there. She had a idea for one of the songs and wanted to discuss it with him. Actually Jamie was always coming up with excuses to talk to Scott.
She walked into the classroom about twenty minutes before the bell would ring. She could see no one and just kept walking. Then Jamie heard a noise behind the diaper-changing curtain. Not giving it a thought Jamie walked behind the curtain.
Her eyes froze like a dear in headlamps at what she saw. Scott was on the changing table; the woman that Jamie knew was his mother was changing his diaper.
"Oh excuse me, I just wanted to talk to Scott. I will go wait."
Scott's Mom spoke up "It's ok Jamie I am about done."
Jamie stood there frozen as Scott's Mom finished changing him then pulled his pants up, before helping him off the changing table.
She then kissed him on the cheek and told him to be a good boy she would see him after school.
That left Jamie and Scott standing there facing each other. Scott's face was as red as crimson could be.
"Hi Scott I just wanted to talk to you about one of the songs for the concert."
