Early the next morning, Jax carried the bags out to the carriage as his father and brother followed behind. He held the door open for them, then climbed into the very back, huddled among the bags. He finally managed to fall into a fitful sleep, plagued by the ever-present night terrors. Two hours later, he was rudely awakened by being unceremoniously dropped on the hard cobblestones.

"Wake up, you idiot!" Braigs hissed. Jax bolted to his feet, trembling. "S-Sorry, sir. It won't happen again." The cruel man just grunted and walked off. Grant grabbed Jax's thin wrist and dragged him along behind. Soon, they were seated in front of the stage. Jax gasped in awe as one of the Masters took the stage. "Ahem. Greetings, people of Vulch! I am Maestro Higuel, the head of the Byrie. In just a few minutes, we will release the Sytids, small creatures that can sense power and record personal information. They will record the data of all the children in this room and send it telepathically to me. Now, I must ask all parents and other adults to please make your way outside, so as to not confuse the Sytids."
There was some grumbling, but all the adults obeyed. Once the last grownup was outside, Maestro Higuel snapped his fingers. About two dozen little creatures came zooming out of the wings and into the crowd of children. They were purple, about a foot tall, and had tentacles like an octopus. Small grey spots dotted their skin like mold, and they made little burbling noises as they swam through the air. Jax inhaled sharply when one laded on his arm, the yelped. "Yow!"
The thing had stuck it's long, barbed tongue into his vein. It pulled back and burbled happily. "You have sweet blood! I am Bubbles! We are friends now!" With that, it flew off.
A few minutes later, Maestro Higuel looked at the clipboard he had been furiously scribbling on. "I shall now announce the eight children who will come to train at ths Byrie. Adara Filsad!" A brown-haired, ivory-skinned girl hurried onto the stage. "Please state your age, element, and legacy." She grinned. "I'm fourteen,a fire chief, and I am Adara daughter of Hebie Filsad." "Ember Adams!" A thin, lanky boy with a shock of red hair sauntered up the steps. "Sixteen, a fire chief, and Ember son of Captain David Adam's, sir." "Kalani Tsonga!" The tan, slender girl stood on the stage, her head bowed. "Kalani daughter of Miles Tsonga, sir. I'm fourteen and an air controller." "Skyler Frieze." The blond boy smirked confidently. "Skyler son of Yvonne Frieze, fifteen, air controller." "Nixie Starr." The short, bronze-skinned girl smiled brightly. "Nixie daughter of Heath Starr, sir. I'm fourteen and a water bender." "Cove Williams." The blond boy's  sapphire eyes twinkled mischievously. "Cove son of Jasad Williams. I'm fifteen and a water bender." "Avani Paluski." She didn't smile as she stood on the stage, the very embodiment of seriousness. "Avani daughter of Grake Paluski sir, fourteen and an Earth shifter." He nodded. "And finally...Jaxon Aimswood."

Heyo! So, I know I'm a day late, but... nobody's ever gonna read this story so it really doesn't matter. But if they do...then I want to tell them to check out SilverBeams and her AH-MAAAZZZING Kotlc stories! They. Are. AWESOME! By the way, what did you think of the characters so far? And if you could control an element, which one would it be? I'd like to be a water bender myself. Bye bye!
