"Guys,"she said as loudly as she dared. They looked over at her and grinned. Jax had, quite obviously, fallen asleep, his head landing on her shoulder. "Poor lil bloke,"Skyler said, sympathy lacing his words. "He musta been exhausted!" "Well, we must be off, so if one of you will wake him..." Higuel said kindly. Skyler nodded and started to reach for him, but Nixie slapped his hand away.
"Don't you dare, Skyler Frieze! If you try to wake that poor boy, I swear..." "Yeah," Adara added. "Don't even think about it." Skyler rolled his eyes, but pulled his hand back. "Well then how do you expect to get him outta here?" "I'll carry him," Ember volunteered. "My boy, are you sure?" Higuel asked, standing. Ember just shrugged and gently lifted Jax, carrying him bridal-style.
They followed the Master out to a large, luxurious carriage, gasping at the sight. A man opened the door. "Greetings, children. I am Domas, the coachman. Please come in." He stepped aside so they could enter. They sat down on plush velveted seats that felt the clouds.
Domas shut the door and turned, smiling at the boy in Ember's lap. "Ah, I see we've lost one already. You can put young Mister Aimswood in the other room. I can assure you that he will not wake."
Ember nodded and disappeared into the other room, reappearing a few minutes later empty-handed. They settled in for the long drive, Maestro Higuel telling them random bits of history from over the years.
After about an hour, noises could be heard from the other room. At first it was just little rustling noises, but it soon turned into mumbled words and soft choking sounds. Concerned, everyone except Skyler, Domas, and Maestro Higuel stood and went to check on him. Kalani got there first, and what she saw made her heart sink.
Jax was writhing on a small cot, tears streaming down his face. Soft, pleading words floated to her ears. "F-Father, please stop! I-I'm sorry, I didn't m-mean to! Please..." Nixie shoved her way in - and for a short kid that girl was strong!- and ran over to him. "Jax, it's ok, calm down!" He didn't answer, simply tossing and turning more. Adara tried next, shaking him. He stiffened and cried harder. "Too loud, too loud! M-Miss K-Kalani..." They stared at her. The young air controller rushed over and sat down beside him. "Shh, it's ok. Shh. It's alright, I'm here."
He relaxed as she softly stroked his hair, humming quietly. After a few moments, his vibrant eyes fluttered open. "Miss Kalani?" She smiled. "Mhm. Are you ok?" He sniffled. "Y-Yes ma'am. Sorry." She laughed softly, tapping his nose(which made him sneeze. She awed inwardly. As did the other girls...and Ember...)and said, "Don't apologize! It's fine, promise!" After a moment, she started to stand, but a hand caught her sleeve. "P-Please, don't leave." The others backed out as she sat back down. "Of course." He sighed and closed his eyes. "S-Sorry..." Kalani gently ran a hand through his hair. "Shh. It's ok, Jax." He shook his head. "B-but...I'm keeping you up and..." She shushed him. "Shh. Don't worry about me, angel boy. Just sleep." After a few minutes, his breathing evened out and he fell asleep again. She didn't know how long she sat there, but soon Skyler came in. "We're here."Hey guys.
