The Eight stared at the large tower in awe. It was huge, the top disappearing into the clouds, and shone a bright pearl in the sun. "Welcome to the Aerie," Maestro Higuel said. "This is the part of the Byrie where the Air controllers will stay. Kalani, Skyler, you will find your rooms in the main hall. They have your names on the doors. Everyone else, please follow me."
Jax bit his lip as Kalani disappeared into the tower, then mentally smacked himself. 'Get over it, idiot!' He scolded himself. 'You're thirteen, act like it!' He followed the others to the next stop, a huge ruby pyramid. "Here we have Feissièr, where the fire chiefs will stay. Ember, Adara, your rooms will be on the top floor. I trust that you will have no trouble finding them." They walked off. The next building appeared to be hidden behind a giant waterfall! "Ah, Wystarya! Cove, Nixie, this is your stop. The water nymphs will direct you to your rooms. Come along, children." Finally, they reached the last stop, a basic, blasè, cave-like structure. Unlike the other stops, Maestro Higuel followed the children in. They couldn't help but stare. What had, on the outside, looked like a boring dome was actually a breathtaking crystal cavern! "Welcome to Lunyasqe, children. Your home now. Avani, you are free to explore as you wish, but Jax, I must ask that you follow me please."
Avani stalked off without a second glance at them. Jax gulped, but followed the Master. Nervous thoughts of where they could be going flashed through his mind, but he didn't dare ask. All he knew was that everytime Braigs or Grant made him follow them somewhere, he always ended up in pain, (SLIGHT TRIGGER WARNING!) usually surrounded by his own blood and tears, new scars from whatever weapon they had used covering his back and torso. (Warning over) Higuel stopped in front of a large iron door. He pushed it open and motioned for Jax to enter. Trembling, he did, but then stopped. The room was large and well-lit, bright colors splashed everywhere and smiling people running about. "Jax, this is the Lunyasqe infirmary. There are a few special people I want you to meet." They walked through the room, people shouting greetings as they passed.
Suddenly, two small figures came tumbling in front of them. A young boy and girl lay sprawled on the floor, clothes in disarray and limbs tangled. The girl blew a strand of brown hair out of her eyes and glanced up. "Oh, hullo Maestro Higuel! Lovely morning, isn't it?" He chuckled. "Hello, Genevieve. Yes, quite lovely, but I do believe you're squishing young Jacob there." She froze, then immediately jumped up. "Whoops, sorry mate. You alright there?" The boy coughed and stood up, shaking his head. "Just...peachy..." Higuel cleared his throat. "Children, this is Jax Aimswood, one of our new Earth shifters. Jax, this is Jacob Tyler and Genevieve Mullet, two of the Byrie's...guests." The girl called Genevieve laughed, rolling her amber eyes. "He means we're charity wards. Strays, ya know?" Jax blinked.
"P-Pardon?" Jacob laughed, running a hand through his raven hair. "We don't have a home or a family. The Masters were kind enough to take us in and raise us, kin?" He nodded. "By the way, no one but the Masters call us by those names. I'm Genie, this is Jake. Pleasure to meet you, Jax." (Yes, Magi, I added them. Get over it.😋) Suddenly, Genie's ears pricked up. "Uh-oh. Sorry, Maestro, but we gotta go! Masher's calling!" They ran off, leaving a smiling Master and a very, very confused Earth shifter. "Masher is the children's caretaker,"Higuel said at the boy's confused look. "She keeps an eye on them and keeps them out of trouble, but with those two...let's just say, it's not exactly the easiest job. They aren't really bad children, just very mischievous. They tend to run off and explore rather than stay in the Tower of Dreams." They had been walking for about fifteen minutes before Higuel stopped. "Jax, the reason I brought you here is because I've noticed that you seem to be severely underweight, as well as that limp of yours. I want you to get a full physical."Hey guys! So this chapter might not seem like much, but it has several key scenes that will be important later on. No, Jake and Genie aren't main characters, but they are needed for the plot to keep moving. And that slight warning earlier might not have lasted for very long, but I consider it very important to put those there during scenes that may trigger someone. If you think something in this story might trigger you, please don't read it! Please don't get hurt because of this. I'd never forgive myself. Qotc: What did you think of Jake and Genie? And also, of Jax's getting a physical?
My answer: I love those two characters! They were so much fun to create and even more fun to write! My friend Magic says they show up everywhere, but that's so not true! ...okay, maybe a little. Anyway, this chapter is dedicated to SilverBeams, more specifically her story The Elementals. Go check it out!
