Chapter 12: Retired Sidekick That's Not So Retired
The place was silent, Rose stood with Dick and Kory on the balcony, sipping on her cup of coffee. Rose enjoyed the silence after everything that happened, she watched the two teens on the picnic bench laugh amongst themselves.
"Think they're okay?" Rose asked Dick, worriedly.
"They're cute together" Kory stated and Rose watched the boy try and teach the teen girl how to roar.
"It's good to see her a normal kid again, you know?" Dick commented as he smiled, watching the two.
"What I saw back there was not normal" Kory stated and Rose looked to the girl. Rose didn't understand why these people were after Rachel, but Rachel now held a special place in her heart and those people would not be taking her without a fight.
"Why do you think they're after her?" Dick questioned the two girls who stood on both sides of her, Rose looked up at the brunette, pursing her lips.
"I think it has something to do with the prophecy on my wall"Kory stated.
"She's going to bring the end of the world?" Dick questioned in disbelief.
"Or stop it" Rose said, her eyes not moving from the girl.
"Bullshit," Dick stated, his jaw clenched as he shook his head. "People make up stories about things they don't understand"
"Maybe, that doesn't mean people won't kill to get her," Kory stated and she looked at the children, sadness in her eyes. "I'm going to get more coffee" she spoke turning and leaving the two on the balcony to watch the teens below laughing.
"They're just kids, they both are" Dick stated and Rose looked up at him, pity and guilt growing inside her.
"They gotta learn how to fight, defend themselves" Rose leaned forward on the balcony as Dick followed suit.
"I don't wanna turn them into weapons, into me" Dick spoke quietly and Rose turned to look at him, pity in her eyes.
"Dick these circumstances are a little different than what yours and Bruces were. Bruce chose to turn you into a weapon, we don't have much of a choice here." Rose spoke, gently watching Dick. The one thing Dick loved about Rose was it seemed like she always knew what to say and she had the biggest heart he knew, even after everything she's gone through, she always been the most caring.
"Once they see the world our way-"
"They'll never stop seeing it that way," Rose stated, Dick, looking to her as she smirked. "You said that when you tried to get me to join the Titans, it stuck." her smirk quickly disappeared as she looked back to him.
"I just want them to be kids," Dick stated.
"Me too." Rose nodded, taking another sip from her coffee. If most people asked was Rose was to Dick, he would usually tell you pain in his ass, but she was his best friend, she always stood by his side no matter what, even if he was in the wrong. Dick would always be thankful for Rose, she always took care of him and he would do anything for her.
