chapter one _ my life as a dad

Jughead's POV

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I tried to find it as fast as I could because I didn't want to wake Delphine up. Finally I found it on the floor and picked it up
"Hey mom what's up?" I said
"Hi honey. Were you asleep ?" She asked
"Yeah, I couldn't sleep last night; Delphine had a fever and I took her to the hospital. I was there all the night and we just came back two hours ago " I yawned
"Sorry Jug, I didn't mean to wake you up. Go to sleep honey "
"It's ok mom. It's Sunday, I can sleep all the day "
"Fine. How's Delphine? Is she better now?"
"Yeah she's better now. She's sleeping next to me "
"Aww I miss her so much. I miss both of you "
"We miss you too. You, dad and JB can come here whenever you want ; I have a small place but you are always welcomed here "
"We'll see you soon Jug, I promise but now tell me more about yourself, how are you?"
"Not bad. It's hard to live like this but we'll survive "
"You're a hero Jug. I'm so jealous of Delphine for having such a great father like you "
"You're gonna make me cry mom. Thank you for the support "
"You deserve it "

Suddenly I heard Delphine crying. She was awake and she was probably looking for me. I had to hang up and check on here
"Sorry mom but I should go. Delphine is awake " I apologized
"Ok Jug Bye. Don't forget to eat "

I hung up the phone and came back to Delphine that was still crying. I put her on my chest and rubbed her back
"Hi Deli good morning. Don't cry honey, daddy's here; you're safe baby. You must be hungry right? Let's go eat something "
We went to our semi kitchen and I made her some milk and she slept after a few minutes
"You were just hungry baby. Let's go to bed now; daddy's really tired "
I put her on my chest again and soon I fell asleep. We slept for 6 hours and woke up at 1 PM. I was so hungry, so I decided to have some tea and maybe a sandwich but when I opened the door of fridge, I found nothing inside of it. We had nothing to eat except powder milk and I was starving. I looked at Delphine that was playing with her rattle.
"I guess we need to go shopping. Do you like it Deli ?" She didn't even look at me, all of her attention was to her toy .
I put a pink onesie on her and wore a flannel myself. We went to the supermarket then and I bought some eggs, canned foods, snacks and.... . I couldn't buy too many things because I couldn't even cook and I had almost forgotten the taste of homecooked food, the ones my mother used to cook. I remember they were delicious and I also remember the reason I couldn't have them anymore. It really makes me cry whenever I think about it.
I came back to reality when we were home. I wiped my tears and looked at Delphine sitting on my lap
"You have no idea how happy I am to have you Deli. You're the reason I'm still alive and I owe you every breath that I take. It's not your fault you had an evil mom and I know you're never going to be like her; you're an angel and I love you so much "
I kissed her abdomen and she giggled. I loved her even more when she laughed.
We played for a while until I got another phone call, it was my boss this time
"Hi miss Luna. Is everything ok?" I asked
"Hello Jughead. Everything is fine I just wanted to know if you have finished the posters or not? "
"Yeah I've already finished them. I'll send them tomorrow morning "
"I'm so excited about them. Can I see them today instead of tomorrow?"
"No problem I'll send them today but it'll take time because I should go and print them "
"Oh don't bother yourself. Can I come to your place and see them? I can print them then "
"Ok I'll send you the address "
"I'm on my way "

I hung up the phone and started cleaning then. I don't know how could a small room be so messy. There were rattles and baby stuff around the room and all I could do was putting them in the closet. It looked better than how it was and at the end I sprayed some air freshener to change the bad smell. I sat on the couch then and held Delphine in my hands.
"I think we should clean this place sometimes, I really mean it " she laughed then
"It's not funny Del , most of these stuff are yours. We should keep the place clean because we may have guests. Granny would come, grandpa would come, even auntie Jellybean would come and I don't want them to think that all we do here is eating and sleeping " she laughed again
"Fine you can laugh as much as you want . This world is so cruel, it wouldn't let you laugh forever"

Suddenly I heard a knock on the door. I put Delphine in her crib and rushed to the door to open it. I saw the most beautiful girl in front of me. She smelled like Vanilla and chocolate and I think I felt something for her; only for a second. She walked in and we shook hands
"I'm Veronica Luna. Nice to meet you, again " she said
"And I'm Jughead Jones. Happy to see you "
"Sorry if I ruined your Sunday. I hope you haven't canceled your plans for me "
"It's ok. I stay home every day,even on Sundays and don't worry ; I didn't cancel anything "
"Good. So is it where you live?"
"I know it's too small but yes I live here "
"Ok let's see what you've done. I've heard you're really good at your job;is that true?"
"It depends. Take a seat please "
She sat on the couch and I sat next to her. I opened my laptop in front of her and showed her the posters I had designed. She looked at them carefully and the whole time she was looking them, I was chewing my nails in stress.

"These are so good Jughead. You're a professional " she said and I took a sigh of relief
"Thank you. I'm happy you liked them "
"Where did you learn it? Did you go to college?"
"What! No, I'm still seventeen,I can't go to college. I just learned it on my own "
"Are you seventeen? Really? You mean we're at the same age?" She raised her voice
"I'm so sorry but would you please speak a little more quiet?"
"Why?"

I heard Delphine crying then. She's sensitive to loud voices, just like her father.
"Because of her. Give me a second please " I apologized and went to see what was wrong with her. I held her and rubbed her back trying to calm her down. I came back to Veronica with her

"Sorry, I had to go " I said
"It's ok. Who is this beautiful angel? Is she your sister?"
"No, she's my daughter "
"Oh she's so cute. Can I hold her?"
"Sure, just be careful " I handed her Delphine and she held her like it was her first time holding a baby

"I can't believe you have a daughter. What's her name?"
"It's Delphine. I can't believe I have her too but I love her so much "
"I guess that's why you were so determined about working at home, to be with her "
"Yes I can't leave a two months old baby alone for hours "
"Sorry I ask but is her mother around?"
"No, she made me leave my town and after that she disappeared "
"I'm sorry. It must be hard to be a single dad at this age "
"I got used to it. We don't really need her mother around when we're good together "
"Is there anything I can do for you like hiring a babysitter? In that case you can work in the company and make more money "
"We don't need more money. I can't leave her "
"At least let me rent a real house for you "
"If you really want to help me, let me live like a normal guy "
"Fine. Can I have the poster files?"

I gave her the memory card and she woke up to leave. We were in front of the door when she gave me a card
"This is my number Jughead. Just call me or text me if you needed anything or you needed to talk. Even normal teenagers have some needs "
I got the card from her and then she left. It was getting dark and I was getting hungry. I opened a can of tuna fish, played spongebob on my laptop and watched it with Delphine. She slept half an hour later and I took her to bed and lay next to her. It was too soon to sleep and I couldn't leave bed. I checked my Instagram, Facebook, snapchat and suddenly I got a message from an anonymous number
"Are you awake?" That was the massage that made me confused. Who could it be?
"Do I know you?" I replied
"You met me today "
"Miss Luna?"
"Call me Ronnie. I feel like an 80 year old woman when someone calls me like that "
"Fine. You wanted to tell me something?"
"Of course I did. Are you free tomorrow night?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Because I want to invite you to my house. I told my friends about you and they would like to see you. So,are you coming?"
"I will, if nothing bad happens "
"Are you tired now?"
"Nope ,just got stuck in my bed with my koala "
"Aw can you send me a picture?"
I sent her a picture of me with Delphine sleeping on my chest
"You two are adorable, I'm jealous of you "
"Haha ,Delphine is the only thing I have and you don't. Now let me tell you something even more cute, she snores when she sleeps "
"You're motivating me to get pregnant right now "
"Why not. Kids are really good, specially when you have to change their diapers "
"Enough to change my mind. Ok I should go but I'll see you tomorrow "
"Bye "

I looked at clock, it was 2 AM and I felt kinda sleepy. I put my phone on the nightstand, kissed Delphine's forehead and closed my eyes then
