Chapter 2: N/A

                                                                                ~~ 24 hours earlier ~~

A warm, wet feeling ran down my forehead. Oh, fantastic. I'm bleeding. I wiped my sleeve across my forehead, my black hoodie now covered in it. Mine, and this imbeciles.

"Please! I don't know anything! I swear!" The man whimpered and scrambled back from where he crawled on the forest floor, leaves crackling.

It's been like 2 hours since I've dragged him here, looking for information on the target.

Quinn Danes.

I shoved my freezing hands into my pockets. "According to my sources, you're her neighbour. Mr Cutler, if I'm correct?"  My sources being me watching his house and the girls.

"Y-yes. I told you I have no idea who her father is. I only know her mother and her." I scanned his fear-struck eyes once more.

Getting him here was quite the battle. I guessed his age was like the late '40s, early '50s. But, he had some fight in him.

Not much, but enough to grab a heavy stick and hit me over the head. Which HURT by the way. I had to get him away from prying eyes somehow.

If he had cooperated, I wouldn't have had to hit him back with the stick. Thankfully, when he hit me, I've had the training to withstand severe trauma to the head, body, everywhere honestly.

I sighed quietly through my black mask.  I had gone for the usual interrogation gear. Black sweatpants, thick black hoodie, a black mask covering my chin up to my nose. Though, I suppose that's what we all wore when doing our 'work'.

I've taken too long. I'm compromised here in the open. It's time to go.

I closed my eyes, breathing deeply. The forest creaked and whispered from the wind blowing in, cold and dark.

And when I opened my eyes again, my blue ocean eyes that my mother had always loved, turned a deep, bottomless, abyss of swirling black ink with flecks of gold.

My voice turned ancient and cold as I looked into the horrified man's eyes, who faintly whimpered by the look of my face. "You will remember nothing of me or what we have talked about tonight. You got drunk at a bar and slept in your car to avoid driving. All that you will feel and remember about tonight is a hangover."

His face turned blank and soulless. "I won't remember anything." He repeated flatly.

The evil lurking beneath my skin smiled, as my eyes continued their work on his mind. "Good. Now, sleep."  It purred deeply. The man's body went limp, his eyes flickering shut, and finally collapsed on the ground.

My body shook and shivered as the demon that lived inside me once again released it's control on my soul.

My eyes closed and once they opened again, they were again a ocean blue. I collected my thoughts and threw the man over my shoulder.

He was a heavy guy, his body teetering on overweight. I grunted with the effort and started to walk to my old 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. The trunk was already open from when we arrived, and I leaned down toward it and the man slid off and thumped as he fell into the trunk. His arm flopped out laying limp on the outside of the trunk and I pushed it back in, and slammed the door shut.

Dusting off my hands, caked with dirt and blood, I hopped into the drivers seat and jamming in the key to make the engine stir to life.

Twisting in my seat to backup, I put in the car in drive and slammed on the gas. Again, I've been here too long. I don't need any amateurs trying to pick up on my leads. Or worse...

My brother.

                                                  .                              .                            .

Thursday, 6:45 a.m. Location: West Central High

I've always hated school. Of course, I haven't been able to stay in one place because of other projects that have gone right or horribly, horribly wrong.

But just being back in a High school again made me cringe. I may be 17 but I still feel like I don't belong. I was tall, well built (If I do say so myself), and pretty scary looking. Maybe it's because of the things I've done. Things I'm not proud of...

But, My cover here is what I needed to get to the girl.

And from what I've learned is the girl isn't very social unlike her best friend, Kayla Malik. A social butterfly, is the kindest way to describe her.

Just from observing her for a few days, I've already gotten a pretty good guess on who she is. But she's the only way I can get to Quinn.

And I need a way in, fast...

I glanced at my phone. 6:45. It's time to find Quinn.

I was currently leaning against the wall, about 3-4 sets of lockers leaning against the wall away from Quinn's Locker.

I was practically leaning against the doorway, planning my next move when I saw Quinn and Kayla talking.

No, Yelling, at each other. Kayla was leading the whole scream-fest. I focused my hearing on them, blocking out the sounds of the students talking, books turning and people chewing.

Focus on her voice...

My hearing narrowed and I heard the end of the conversation.

"...shut yourself off from everyone and everything to shield the fact that you're terrified that they are going to leave you too!"

My body went still.

THIS is her BEST FRIEND?

A few seconds passed before I turned from the doorway and started my walk down the hallway, not even thinking before I just started walking toward Quinn.

But my thoughts stopped as soon as Quinn rammed into my chest, sprawling onto the floor. The impact didn't even rock me.

She just fell back unto her elbows and feet, her bag skidding away. She rubbed her eyes and head and moaned quietly. "Ow..." Her face was tear-streaked and damp, emotions clouding her dark chocolate eyes.

And when she looked up at me, when her eyes met mine, her whole body went stiff and scared.

I smirked down at her. "Hello there."
