As soon as the words were out of my mouth, my whole body shook.
Asher's eyes enlarged as he took in these words, processing.
"What has it said to you?" He asked quietly, scanning my eyes.
What do you want me to say, Quinn?
My demon hummed down my spine once more- a chilling female voice as hard as stone and older than life itself.
"It's speaking to you know isn't it?" He began to move closer to me but I clasped my eyes shut.
"Hold on," I said, concentrating on the voice of my demon again.
What do you want from me? I hissed at the entity.
Nothing at all. I just wanted to check-in. Say hi.
Bull. What do you want?
I clutched the car seat, the leather groaning beneath my fists.
Just a warning to watch your back. Not everyone is as friendly as they seem...
I open my eyes and watch Asher's tense and still body.
Including your handsome prince.
I swallowed, his eyes flicking to that change.
"What is it? What did it say?" He asks, still scanning, still processing.
Continuously calculating.
"Nothing, it's fine," I said shortly, turning away from his steady gaze.
"Quinn-"
"We should get going."
I look out the window. Shut him out.
I hear Asher's sigh before the car stirring to life.
He pulls out of the parking lot and we are once again watching the open road for miles.
I watch the trees pass by. I watch other cars pass by.
What am I doing...? I don't even know why I'm trusting him. This isn't some romantic movie where the boy saves the girl. I'm so done with that story.
I want to save myself. But I can't... I'm too weak and confused.
Asher is the only one who knows how I feel. Whatever's happening to me, he's experienced.
So I need to be careful. I have to be prepared.
Or I'll end up dead.

I must have fallen asleep at some point because I stirred awake to Asher yelling my name.
"QUINN."
I jolted up and alert to our car going 100 MPH down the deserted highway.
"What the heck is going on!?" I ask, twisting in my seat to look at Asher who's intensely focusing on the road and rearview mirror where three cars were currently on our tail, each on a different lane.
"We've been followed." He says tightly, tossing me a pistol.
"What-" I touch the cold weapon and shiver.
"What do you want me to do with this?!" I yell, Asher wincing from the volume.
He rolled his eyes. "Princess, in case you haven't noticed we are currently being chased by Conan and his thugs hired from The Unit."
"What is-"
BANG!
"GET DOWN!" Asher pushed my back down so I was folded in two, crying out from the shattered glass raining down on us both.
