Chapter 39: Training Camp P5

Midoriya ran through the forest, trying to keep himself calm. Not only was he worried about his childhood friend, Bakugou, but he was also worried about his crush. (F/N) had called out for help and Venus said she'd heard her. So far, that was it. As he ran through the forest, he'd heard nothing, so that meant (F/N) and Venus weren't near him.

As he ran, he gasped when he saw something lunge at him. He screamed in pain as a force ran into him, pulling him away from the violent attacker. It was Shoji and one of his Dupli-Arms was bleeding.

"Shoji? What happened?!" Midoriya asked, as his friend caught his breath.

"With those injuries, you should be laid up in bed, recovering. But you wanna save your friend. No matter what the cost?"

"I was hoping to run into Alessia... you're injured too."

"Yes, we were ambushed by villains and I covered us. But the attack triggered Tokoyami's quirk. Even though he was desperately trying to hold it back." Midoriya remembered when Tokoyami told him about how his quirk gets stronger, but more aggressive and vicious to control.

"No! Don't tell me."

"Yeah," Shoji said, confirming Midoriya's fears. "If we wanna get through here, we'll have to face Dark Shadow first." Dark Shadow growled, his darkness holding Tokoyami in his grasp. Through his strain and panic, Tokoyami warned his friends, desperately needing them to steer clear of him.

"Stay away... f-from me! YOU'LL DIE!"

"Tokoyami, no!" At that, Dark Shadow let out a terrifying growl into the dark night, only adding to the stress the students already felt. "But how did he gets this way?"

"Keep it down," Shoji added as Dark Shadow's large body moved past them. "After Alessia and Mandalay told us what was happening and that we shouldn't engage, we were both on high alert. Still, one of the villains got the drop on us. I hid in the bushes and tried to cover Tokoyami, even though one of my arms was cut off."

"Really?"

"It looks bad, but it's not like it's lost forever. My Dupli-Arms are capable of making duplicates upon duplicates. One of those was cut off. Thing is, he couldn't stand seeing me injured like that. The quirk he'd been suppressing began to rage and take over. It wasn't until we heard a scream- it sounded a lot like (L/N) nearby- he lost it." At that moment, Dark Shadow destroyed a tree and let out a vicious growl.

'That means (F/N) must be nearby!' Toxin yelled.

"Shoji, did you hear (N/N) yell just a bit ago?"

"In my head, yes, but I didn't hear her nearby. She must've been moved by whoever was holding her- well it sounds like there are two villains holding her." Shoji confirmed and Midoriya turned his attention back to Dark Shadow.

"The darker it is, the less control Tokoyami has. I had no idea his quirk could explode like this."

"It's probably fueled by his righteous indignation and regret. He's trying to hold it back, but they made it wilder." Shoji took a step back, in an attempt to hide from Dark Shadow, but he accidentally crushed a branch under his foot. Dark Shadow lunged at the sound, making Shoji jump and move away. "It started lunging at any sound or movement, a beast lashing out with indiscriminate attacks."

'I can distract him then!'

"No Toxin, I need you to stay with me." Midoriya whispered, but Shoji was able to hear him.

"She's with you?"

"Yeah-"

"Forget about me!" Tokoyami yelled, through a strained voice. "Go! Find our classmates- (L/N)! Help them instead!" Dark Shadow's grip tightened on the boy; he was helpless. "Stop this! Calm down, Dark Shadow!"
