"What do you want to know?" Jonah hummed.
"Tell me your life story. I might even do the same." Jack smiled.
Jonah smiled back. He felt so cared for. He never felt like this before.
"Haha, well I'm an only child. I had a mom and a father- I went to the best schools before I joined my father's business." Jonah shrugged. He could argue that was his life story, because that's all that happened.
"That's it? C'mon tell me more." Jack pouted.
"Well, okay. I lost my mother at 10. She was sick with cancer, but I was prepared. My father raised me until I took over. Um, he's still alive. He lives alone, somewhere around here actually." Jonah shrugged.
"Oh, I'm sorry, about your mom. You and your dad must've taken that hard." Jack sighed sadly. Jonah sat there with a weak grin.
"Actually we didn't. Not as hard as most people would expect. My father was heartless, so he never cried; Not even at his own wife's funeral. I barley cried anything, yeah it was sad, but it'll happen to everyone eventually. The minute you take your first breathe, then the countdown begins." Jonah explained.
"But don't you ever miss her? She's gone, Jonah. She was your mother. And you shouldn't think of life like an inconvenience.." Jack sighed leaning on Jonah's shoulder.
"Yeah, every now and then I'll just think about her- anything like, the perfume she wore, or how she always made the house perfectly clean, or how I miss the nagging, or how she smiled. Then I'll miss her insanely. I just don't need to show it. My father got mad at me when I'd cry. One time I was crying in my room, and he saw me: He beat me until my mouth tasted like blood." Jonah shrugged.
"Oh J-Jonah, I'm sorry." Jack stammered. He didn't think Jonah's story would get so deep.
"Awe, honey. Whenever he'd hit me, I didn't care. It's alright, I don't like pity. I don't want you to feel bad for things that happened years ago," Jonah chuckled.
"But he hurt you-"
"He, can live and die the way he's always wanted: Alone, surrounded by tons of money. I have my life, and he'll have his. That's just the way it is, babydoll." Jonah hummed running his fingers through Jack's hair.
"Okay. I understand," Jack agreed with a shy nod.
"Enough about my life. Tell me about you." Jonah smiled leaning against Jack.
"Oh, okay. I don't know if it'll be as simple as yours, though." Jack giggled.
"That's exactly why I want to hear it," Jonah nodded.
"Alright, um. My biological dad left when I was born, he didn't want to be a father.. Then my mom remarried about 4 years later. My stepfather didn't like me much- He was a bad guy, but so was my mom. She started drinking and going out more, and said it was for work; Obviously I believed her. But then my 3 sisters came along later, so I got a job to support us- it was at a retail store. I'd go to school, come home and cook dinner, go to work for hours, and yeah, everyday was the same when your a shadow," Jack sighed.
"I'm sorry that happened to you, honey. I truly am. Where's your family now?" Jonah asked curiously. He already didn't like the family. How could they hurt him, and treat him like he was invisible?
"My mom and stepdad disowned me after I came out. They told my sisters I was wrong and different. My own sisters dropped me, like I didn't work my ass off to buy them clothes, food, and anything my mom didn't. I worked so hard for all of them, and they just acted like I was a stranger. So after the whole college thing failed, I moved to the city, and started over. But I miss them." Jack sighed putting his head down.
"I'm so sorry they hurt you. You're so valuable to me; your perfect." Jonah smiled weakly, his face was barley inches away from Jack's.
Jack and Jonah stared.
Jonah leaned in.
So close.
"Excuse me, Jonah Marais? I have your wine and meal." A waiter smiled tapping on the parted window.
They pulled away and Jack's face couldn't be any more red.
"Alright, thank you." Jonah mumbled as the man handed them their covered dishes. Jonah wasn't blushing at all, but Jack was beat red. He can't believe he almost kissed Jonah on their first date.
"Here, doll. This is shrimp and chicken alfredo, mixed with truffles." Jonah listed out handing Jack the steamy pasta.
"O-oh, thank you Jonah." Jack mumbled never looking up.
Jack twirled the pasta with his fork and carefully put it in his mouth. His tastebuds lit up, at the amazing flavor.
Jonah eats like this everyday, and this was Jack's first and probably last time ever eating like royalty.
"Good, isn't it, honey?" Jonah smirked as he watched Jack put another forkful in his mouth.
"Wow, amazing," Jack giggled covering his mouth. Jonah loved seeing Jack enjoy those simply things.
"Yeah, after a shoot at work, me and Corbyn usually come here to eat." Jonah duly added.
A shoot at work..
What the hell did that mean?
Was Jonah Marais a murder? A killer, who took lives in return for stacks of money?
"A shoot at work, huh? What's that?" Jack played dumb as questions flooded his mind.
"Just business, honey. Nothing you need to worry about." Jonah hummed with a small grin.
Business.
Jonah had a messy business.
Jack had to know.
"Jonah, can I ask you something?" Jack asked ever so lightly. So delicately scared.
"Yes, Love. Anything," Jonah smiled.
"Ha-have you ever ki-killed anyone?" Jack questioned, stumbling on the words. How can you just ask someone, if they've killed? It isn't a normal topic on a first date.
"The real question is, do you think I have. Do you think I'm a killer, baby?" Jonah fired back never breaking eye contact.
How can Jack answer?
Yes, he knows the mafia is a dangerous business. Jonah must've killed to survive, and earn. To get that kind of money.
No, Jack knows your a sweet, man behind a cold mask. He knows, Jonah seem dangerous, but he thinks your different.
"Well, Jack?" Jonah urged teasingly.
Jack rambled on something to say. He can't just answer that, so surely, "I-I-I know the mafia is dangerous, but I know your a sweet man, and you care. I know that you-"
Jonah cut him off, and began his own statement. So calm, and emotionless- soft spoken almost.
"I didn't ask what you, know I asked what you think. Jack, do you think I've killed people?"
Jack can't sit and lie.
He can't lie.
Jonah knew what he knew.
Jonah knew what he thought.
I made no difference.
"Well, baby?" Jonah chuckled.
Jack was tongue tied by his thoughts.
Stop thinking just for a second, he could hear in the back of his head.
Just say it..
And Jack stopped thinking for a split second.
"Y-yes, Jo-Jonah. I think you-you've killed before."
