Chapter 1, the loop.

Amelia Pond, the most stubborn yet loveable girl the doctor had ever met, also the girl who was bugging him in the library of the TARDIS. She was curiously pulling out books and papers, asking him about the contents. And when she came across a matte black book with stars scattered over it, she couldn't help but ask him about it.

"Pollux.. isn't that a star?" Amy questioned as she scanned through the papers filled with facts and stories of the planet that once was.

"It was originally the greatest empire that has ever been. Wonderful people, good allies with G.." he paused and looked at the floor before continuing with a cough. "Gallifrey."

"An empire named after a star?" She scoffed, putting the book back where she found it.

"A star named after a planet." The Doctor corrected her as he found what he had been looking for. "Aha!" He pulled out a small handbook about how to reset certain controls in a Tardis. Amelia rolled her eyes at the sight.

"Are you telling me I've been in your awfully boring library for over an hour, only for you to look for a handbook?"

"Boring?!"

"Yes! Boring." She huffed and sat down in the red leather armchair. "Libraries are boring."

"You just haven't been to the right ones." He looked at her with a soft smile, reading through the pages of the small book in his hands.

"Really? Then take me to the best one."

_______

2024, 5th of April.  London.

The windows of the library were as clear as ice, but yet they couldn't bring justice to the wonderful landscapes that filled my vision. The green fields of grass with bright flowers bringing even more colours to the sight, luscious trees with birds chirping and singing for everyone and everything, it was like a dream.

"Lily!" The voice of Katya, my manager rang through my ears like an alarm set for way too early in the morning. I turned around on the spot, looking at the old woman rushing into the room. "Lily what in the world are you doing up here? I told you to come down and help me sort the books before we open, customers are already in!" She scolded in a motherly way. It was true, I had promised her to help today. But something about the sight from this specific window in the break room, it couldn't escape my mind.

"Sorry, Mrs Heathly." I gave the woman a simple nod before rushing down with my black apron over my arm. The look on her face screamed 'what will we do with you?'.

Having been orphaned for as long as I can remember, this was the closest thing I had to call my home. For the past six years, ever since I was seventeen, I had been helping out at the main library in London. I got to watch it grow, advance in technology, become the largest tourist attraction in the world. At this point people didn't come for the wonderful books that filled the shelves of my home, but rather for the sight of the beautiful place. Indoor gardens and ponds, mechanic birds that looked just like live ones, shelves filled with all of the books one could imagine. It was all ignored for the purpose of taking a good picture to upload on social media. The London Library was no longer a place for book lovers to sit down with a cup of coffee and dream away in their favourite stories and novels, it was a place you could show off.

"Finally you're here." Marina, one of the cashiers scolded me before motioning for me to go to isle 36A. The isle filled with everything one could ask about space and it's wonders. Once I saw the loads of messily unpacked boxes and unorganised books, I not only felt the dread of having to work, I felt the most undeniable desire to sort and fix it. It didn't take long until half of the books had been organised perfectly in what felt like four minutes, but what really was a couple of hours. I was so distracted by the work that I didn't notice how fast time passed by, nor the two people watching me from below the ladder.
