Over the weeks, Gale tried to ‘control’ me. This was what he called his methods of disciplining me. It included using his power on me whenever I acted differently to how he wanted me to. I could feel my eyes becoming more and more red as Gale forced me to drink human blood. As the days ticked past, I wondered if the Cullen’s were really looking for me, or if they just assumed I was dead. I would spend the nights straining to see if I could hear their footsteps, but I heard nothing. I tried to convince Gale to let me out of the shack, but he saw straight through my lie. All I wanted was to hear the Cullen’s sweet voices, and see their flawless faces, but I knew that I probably would never again. I thought of Carlisle, and how I could confirm that I would never see him again.
One morning a loud knocking came from the door, which Gale unwillingly answered. He kept the door mainly closed, so whoever it was could not see me. “Yes?” he said.
"Greetings,” a soft female voice said. Her voice chimed like bells. “I believe that you are on our land. Is there a reason for it?” She spoke like werewolves, and how the land was divided up. I listened closer, and noticed that I couldn’t hear her heart. Was she a vampire?
“My apologies. I didn’t know the land was… occupied,” Gale said sweetly.
“May we come in?” The woman asked. “We have to make sure that everything is peaceful on our land.”
Gale tensed. “Sorry, but no,” he said.
“Why not?” the woman asked, suddenly quite fierce.
Gale went completely still, all his muscles tensing. The only thing he moved was his head and his eyes, that darted around looking terrified.
“W-what did you do? Where am I?” he boomed, and he twisted around. He looked at me, but his eyes didn’t focus. He couldn’t see me. What was going on? The door swung open, and two women came in. They looked very wild, their bright red eyes darting about in quick movements. Both the women’s hair was long, black, and braided. They had dark skin, and all their features looked like they had been stretched. They were both very tall, and only wore hide vests and tight-fitting pants, laced up the sides with leather ties. The two women looked at me, with Gale still terrified and frozen still.
I lowered my head. Gale had ‘taught’ me to be polite when someone entered the room. One of the newborns holding me let go of my arm, and it was seized by the other newborn who was still holding me. He walked up to the two women.
“What did you do?” he growled.
One of them smiled, showing her perfectly white teeth. “It’s just Zafrina’s power. She can create vivid illusions. He is trapped in her world.” She looked at me. “How about you?” she asked the newborn.
He growled again. “None of your business.”
The other woman smiled. “No need to boast, Senna,” she said. So, the woman closest to Gale, Zafrina, could cause people to hallucinate? It was an astonishing power.
Gale’s body relaxed, and he focused his eyes on Zafrina as he got his sight back. “How dare you!” he boomed. She twisted in pain, he back doubling forwards. Senna stumbled back, horrified. The newborn launched at her, but she quickly dodged out of the way. In seconds her and the newborn were twisting around each other, dodging the attacks. Still in pain, Zafrina looked up at Gale, and his eyes went blank again. He growled.
“Come back!” he shouted, thrashing about. Zafrina stepped back, and punched the newborn across the face. He stumbled back, and Senna took her place beside Zafrina. They both shot their hands out at once, knocking the newborn into the wall.
