Elora's point of view
It must have been over a month since Gale had taken me here. In the end, I realized that the only way to please Gale would be to do as he says, and try to remember it. There was no point struggling because I would be the only one getting hurt. Gale had softened as the days went past, and treated me how I always wanted him to; like a father. If I angered him, he would go back to the same Gale I knew too well, but when he calmed down, I slowly grew a liking to him as it was the first time I had seen his soft side. I wished I had seen it sooner.
“So, why did you never have any friends at school?” Gale asked me one morning. The newborns had left my arms alone, but were sat either side of me.
“I was bullied, and no one wanted to be friends with the girl who had bruises,” I whispered, looking down at my hands. I didn't like to talk about it, neither did I like to talk about anything with him.
Gale’s eyes thinned. I was agitating him. He looked at me for a second before his features softened. “I never thought I’d say this… but I’m sorry," he began, looking down at his hands. "Now that alcohol has no effect on me, I realize what I did wrong. Everything I did, I never meant it."
I smiled. “Thank you,” I whispered, and I stood up. The two newborns reached for me, but I was by Gale before they could move. I wrapped my arms around him. “I’m sorry for everything I ever did. I was just scared,” I whispered.
Gale’s body stiffened. “Don’t say that,” he snarled. I felt his hand clench into a fist. “And let go of me!” he suddenly shouted, and his fist hit my chest, pushing me away. I flew across the room, and landed on the concrete floor with a thud. I felt no pain, but the ground cracked under me. Gale stood up, brushing himself down as if I had left something on him. “Don’t ever talk like that,” he growled before disappearing out the door.
I didn’t know what I had done wrong, but whatever it was, it had hit a nerve in Gale. No more embraces.
It was very late at night when I heard faint footsteps running towards us. My head shot up, desperately listening for the smaller details. There were two people, one’s footsteps lighter than the other, but both very quiet. It was a female and male. Their footsteps were very fast, so they were eithe vampires or werewolves. They sounded as if they were desperate, but if they were werewolves, they would be faster than that. They must have been vampires.
At that moment, Gale and the two newborns both heard the footsteps. Gale growled.
“Get her out of here,” He snarled at the two newborns through his teeth. The newborns seized my arms. I struggled, but Gale’s power shot through my chest, pulling out most of my strength with it. I twisted in pain, and the newborns pulled me towards the door.
We were out in the open within seconds. I could see the moon peeking through the trees, casting long shadows everywhere. The pain ceased, and I heared the breathing of the two vampires as we ran around the shack, to the back of it. One breathing was light, and sweet, the other very low and steady.
“Do you think we are near?” I heard the woman ask the man. They were still 3 miles away from us, but I instantly recognized the voice. It was Esme.
Something inside of me exploded, and I burst with happiness. They were looking for me. The man did not answer. Was it Jasper? Or Emmett?
“Let’s go,” one of the newborns growled. This was my one and only chance.
I opened my mouth, and ignoring the fact that no proper sound would come out, I shouted, “Help!” To my surprise, my voice rang out, clear and beautiful. It chimed like a million bells ringing, all in sync. It didn’t break or crackle. It didn't croak. The beauty of my voice took me aback. My voice cut off at the end, slightly too early. It wasn’t used to having to work like that, and took it as a surprise, so much so that at first it didn’t break at all.
