It happened so quickly, I barely had time to look at Seth before the guards launched themselves at us. I knew that Bella would be their main target. Edward threw himself in front of her as she desperately tried to keep her shield up. I could feel it slowly slipping. I looked away from them, and saw two guards running at Seth and me. We both growled in sync. Seth leaped into the air, changing into a wolf. He hit the ground on all fours and roared at the guards. I would take one, and he would take the other.

Carlisle rushed over to where Gale, Aro and Marcus were, trying to negotiate with them.

The guard launched himself at me, and I swiftly dodged out of the way. My hand shot out, and a thin line of metal shot out from the wall, landing in my hand. I raised it just as the guard launched himself at me again. It dug into his cheek, and I pulled it out, creating a long crack across the guard’s face. He stumbled back, and I kicked him back further. He went flying, and landed on the floor, crunching it into pieces. He shot back up, and launched at me again. I ducked out of the way, but he took my knife from me. I looked down at my empty hand, shocked from what he had done so swiftly.

My hand shot out to the wall and a long string of metal flew out from it. I used it as a whip, slashing across the guard's body with it. The metal tore at his long, black cloak, and it created cracks up his arms and across his face. The guard twisted around, trying to dodge my attacks. It didn't work, and the metal kept slashing at his rock-hard skin.

The guard spun around and wrapped his hand around the metal whip. It cracked his skin, and he flinched in pain. With one swift jerk of his wrist, he pulled the metal free from my hand. He stepped close to me, and before I could move, he brought his fist across my cheek. My head flew to the side, pain shooting through my cheek.

I briefly saw out of the corner of my eye Bella being pushed against a wall.

Edward was lying on the floor, many tiny cracks trying to heal themselves across his face. Bella was pushed up against a wall by Caius, with his arm across her throat. I felt her shield bounce back to only herself, like a giant rubber band. Jane must have noticed, because she set her eyes on me. The burning pain shot through me, and I fell to my knees. I looked up, trying to make sure no one would attack me. For some reason, I wasn’t attacked. The guard wasn't even near me. Instead, the worst thing possible happened.

The guard fighting Seth got him in a headlock. Jane ran to me, the pain getting worse. Seth scratched at the guard’s hands, but he didn’t seem to notice. He tightened his grip, and Seth whimpered in pain. He looked at me, and faintly smiled. As much pain as I was in, I tried to stand. I didn’t work, and I fell to my knees. The guard looked at me, seeing the fear shinning in my eyes.

In one half-a-second movement, he broke Seth’s neck.

It happened so quickly, I barely had time to scream when Seth’s neck twisted in an unnatural way and he dropped to the floor. His fur slowly sunk back into his skin, and he became human. My mouth opened as I tried to scream, but no noise came out. Instead I listened, but I heard no beating heart.

He was dead.

I felt Jane seize my arm, and I twisted around, my hand clawing across her face in a sudden angry burst. Three big cracks opened up across her face, and she fell down to the floor in pain. The pain in my body stopped, and I turned back to the guard. I ran to him, my eyes thinning and anger burning up inside of me. Carlisle ran in between us, closing his arms around me. I tried to pull away from him, doing whatever I could. Spikes of metal shot out from the walls, only just missing everyone. I growled more as I fought with Carlisle, wanting revenge on the guard. I pulled more, my mind focusing on every piece of metal I could sense. Pieces shot out of the walls, stabbing at Carlisle’s back. I didn’t know what I was doing anymore. I just wanted to kill the guard. Carlisle let out a gasp of air as the metal cracked his skin. He let go of me, but instead of running to the guard, I ran to Seth. He lay motionless on the floor. I picked his head up, running my shaking fingers across his face.
