Kieran Duffy X Female Reader

Summary: you put Kieran's worries to rest.

Word Count: 1800

Your attention drifted from light conversation around the campfire, your gaze wandered over to the horses in the hopes to see a familiar figure. You frowned slightly when you didn't see Kieran anywhere.

You stood from your seat at the campfire with a silent sigh, nodding a small goodbye to the others. They didn't question you as you walked away, just returning to their conversation.

You headed straight over to where you knew that Kieran liked to hide away to avoid the other members of the gang. You knew that he didn't feel comfortable sitting in the camp and you couldn't really blame him for that but you did wish that he wouldn't hide away like he did. You would like to sit around camp with him.

Walking past the horses, you finally saw Kieran, exactly where you thought he would be. He was sitting behind a large rock, probably taking a break from working on the horses under the sun. You appreciated that it wasn't always easy work.

"Taking a break?" you asked as you walked up to him.

"Oh, hey Y/n. Yeah, I can get back to work if you need me too" Kieran nodded, going to stand up,

"No, no, I'd rather just sit here with you" you assured him with a smile, placing a hand on his shoulder to encourage him to sit back down. "You know that can sit in the camp, right?" you asked as you sat down on the ground beside him.

"I guess but...I don't think the others like that much" Kieran looked down at his lap.

"You're one of us now Kieran, everyone will come around eventually" you nudged his shoulder with your own. You really did hate how some of the others treated him, some members of the gang had warmed up to him but others were still needlessly cruel.

"I hope so" Kieran confessed with a small sigh.

"They will. Do you not believe me?" you asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Oh no! Of course I do, it's just..." Kieran turned to you with widened eyes. Of course he believed you! He didn't mean to offend.

"Kieran, relax, I'm only playing with you. You know that you don't have to be so nervous and on edge around me. I'm your friend, I'm on your side" you reminded him with a kind smile, a smile that always made Kieran's stomach flutter.

It stung a little, hearing you refer to you both as 'friends', Kieran didn't like the way it sounded but if that's all he could be to you he would accept it. Still, he couldn't stop himself from remembering what it felt like when you kissed him. He just kept replaying the scene in his head over and over again, he was starting to think that he would only ever have that one memory.

"You're cute when you get all blushy" you teased him fondly and Kieran only know realised how warm his face was. "What are you thinking about?" you asked with a small chuckle. It was pretty clear that he had lost himself in thought for a moment.

"N-nothing" Kieran blushed some more.

No, he could never tell you that he thought about kissing you. He could never telling you that when he couldn't sleep he would just close his eyes and imagine what it would be like to be holding you. You would probably think it was weird, think he was weird. He just couldn't tell you.

-----

Kieran brushed through Branwen's mane but his attention was elsewhere, his attention was on you as it so often was these days. He just couldn't take his eyes off of you, you had even caught him doing so and that always turned him into a blushing mess.
