JANE'S POV
"Princess Jane, your breakfast is now ready." from my peripheral vision, I saw one of our maids, Catherine, who slightly bowed her head as she approached me inside my room.
I stopped combing my hair and turned to look at her.
"Is Suzaine downstairs already?"
"Your sister is already downstairs. But she already started eating without you-"
I smiled at her. "It's alright. Shall we?"
I stood and made my way downstairs as Catherine followed behind me.
Arriving at the dining room, my eyes met with Suzaine's eyes. I smiled at her but she just rolled her eyes in return.
"You're up early." I greeted with a light smile.
"I've lost my appetite. Thanks for the breakfast, Victoria." She immediately stood from her seat and walked away without even turning back to look at me.
I felt that our maids were all looking at me. I even heard some of them murmur but I chose to ignore it. It's not like this is the first time they've seen us like this.
"Princess Jane, you should eat now before your food runs cold."
I gave Catherine a dry smile.
When will Suzaine and I ever be in good terms? Does it always have to be this way?
"Princess Jane."
I turned to Victoria, the head of our maids and the oldest worker we have in this castle, who was now walking towards me.
"My princess, three months from now, you will be celebrating your 21st birthday and will be crowned as the new Queen of Elvaria."
Three months. I'm not ready for this responsibility. Suzaine should be the one taking the throne... not me. Definitely NOT ME.
I am not even a Montgomery. I was just a lost baby they found and adopted. The late King and Queen treated me like I was their eldest daughter who had gone missing for years and had not been found ever since. I will always be forever grateful that they made me feel like I belong, like I have a real family but I do not deserve any bit of the throne they left.
"We know you and Princess Suzaine had it rough since the death of the late King Xavier XI and Queen Vivienne, but I do hope both of you will sort things out real soon because you are the only one she has left."
I took a deep breath before responding to Victoria.
"I'll skip breakfast for now. Thank you, Victoria."
I roamed my eyes to look for Suzaine in our garden. She must be here somewhere. She has to be.
Flowers always reminds her of mum.
Wait, of course, yes! White roses.
I immediately ran to the glasshouse where our white roses were planted and ALAS! I found her.
"Suzy." I called.
She looked pissed as she turned around.
"Leave me alone."
"I can't do that. Suzaine, we can't keep acting this way. We're the only family we have left. Mum and dad wouldn't like to see us turn this way-"
"Don't you dare bring my parents up!" she shouted. Tears were starting to form in her eyes.
"Suzaine, I'm-"
"You killed them! If it wasn't for you, they would have been alive!"
"Suzaine, I didn't-"
"Everything would have been better if they did not meet you. Everything would have been better if you were the one who died!"
I felt a pang of pain in my heart. Tears started to roll from my eyes.
"Just leave me alone. Let me do my own thing while you do yours. You'll be crowned queen in 3 months. You will have everything you want. JUST LEAVE ME BE."
"I don't want this." I paused.
"If it means that we'll forever stay this way then I don't want to be queen. I never wanted to be one in the first place. Suzaine, I want us to be in good terms. We're sisters. I want to make it up to you." I stepped closer towards her and held both of her hands.
Both of our eyes met.
"I just want us to be okay. What is it that I can do for that to be possible?"
"Go find my real sister then."
Dead silence filled the glasshouse.
"Let the rightful heir to the throne take her birthright. Then maybe I'll forgive you."
