Amara POV
The rickety plane I rode in began to shake violently.
"Just turbulence..." I murmured to myself, placing a hand on Destiny's head.It had taken some convincing to get the pilot to allow the dogs on the plane, but there was no way I was letting them ride in the cargo area.
The plane shook harder and my stomach rolled.
Survivor began to growl softly, earning looks o distrust from the other passengers.
I gently stroked his nose to calm him.The intercom crackled.
"Just some mild turbulence, we shoul—ahhh!"The left wing of the plane suddenly burst into flames, followed by the right.
Screams filled the air.I pulled on the oxygen mask, heart pounding in my chest.
This was no common accident.
They were coming for me."We're heading for the ocean! Put on your life vests- quickly!" I shouted over the noise. I had put all these innocent people in danger: it was my job to lead them to safety.
I took the dog's leashes, holding on tight to the armrests as the plane suddenly hit the water.
"Quickly! Open the escape doors!" I screamed over the ruckus, springing out of my sleep and running to the nearest emergency exit, opening it.
A raft filled with air before falling to the ocean below.
"Faster!" I shouted as the plane slowly began to sink.Adults and children alike slid down the metal, swimming to the rafts and climbing in.
Soon everyone was loaded in. Except me.
"Aren't you coming, miss?" A man shouted as his raft began to drift away.
I shook my head, pulling out my cellphone. "Not this time... you all must call the emergency services- and activate the trackers on your devices! Now get the hell out of here!"
The passengers pulled oars from the bottom of the rafts and began to paddle away, the ocean waves helping to carry them away from the plane.
The plane was still sinking, slowly but surely. I bit my lip, unclipping the dogs from their leashes.
Their nails were sharp and they would pop any of the rafts, unless I could put something together...I quickly began taking life vests, lining the bottom of one of the last remaining rafts with it, than gave each dog a pat on the head, before instructing them to get in.
They looked at me with wide eyes, and I managed a small smile before jumping in the water and pushing the raft away, letting the waves carry it off.
"You stay! You hear me? Stay!"A salty wave got in my mouth and I spat it out, swimming towards a half-blown-up raft and clambering in it as the plane disappeared beneath the waves.
"I know you're coming," I murmured quietly, sitting cross-legged in the raft and taking out a few throwing stars.
I closed my eyes, breathing deeply, preparing to summon the power that courses through my veins.Soon the sound of a roaring engine reached my ears, a small boat appearing in the distance, growing larger and larger as it neared me.
I smiled.
"There you are."It was almost upon me when it drew to a stop, rocking in the water.
A figure stepped forward and into the light.
My heart nearly stopped.
"Peter?"He was staring at me with a face of stone, no emotion is his green eyes, which were duller than I had ever seen them.
"You're a traitor," he hissed, drawing a gun from the holster on his hip.
"Peter, what are you talking about?! You saw them- you saw your father trying to kill me! Is this about the whole electrocuting thing? I had no choice!"
I heard the click of him cocking his gun.
"You can't seduce me.""Seduce you? Why would I seduce-" I broke off, having had enough time to summon the power.
I sent green tendrils snaking towards Peter, using the power from the surge to catapult towards his ship.
My hair whipped around my face as I landed on board the vessel.
A gunshot rang out and I threw myself to the ground, the bullet missing me by a inch.I took out a throwing star and chucked it in Peter's direction, but he ducked, firing again.
This time the bullet embedded itself in the wall behind me.
My breath came short as I once again sent lightning towards Peter.
He leapt out of the way, and the glowing light struck the ship, causing the engine to sputter.I stumbled backwards as the ship shook.
"Peter stop this! It's me. It's Amara!"
He laughed, advancing towards me.
"I know full well who you are. You're the girl who murdered people for no reason- who pretended to be my friend- who got me to care for you just so you could steal information from us and feed it to our enemies, just for money," he spat.My thoughts were spinning out of control. "What are you talking about?"
He leaned forward, the pistol pointing at my head. I began to gather power again.
"You thought I wouldn't find out? You thought you could manipulate poor, lovestruck me forever? It's over, Amara."
"No. No it's not." I lunged forward, my hands gripping the side of his head and sending shocks through his body.
He stumbled backwards and I let go, my arms falling to my sides as the power in me calmed, my veins fading to the normal color.
Peter was on his hands and knees, and he looked up at me through a lock of dark hair.
"Amara?"I narrowed my eyes. "Yes."
He clumsily got to his feet. "What have I done? You're alive! You're okay!"
Hope snuck into my heart. Had applying the power to his head restored his memories?
He stumbled towards me, taking my cheeks in his calloused hands.
"It's you."I nodded, staring into his eyes. "Yes... it's me."
He smiled, his mouth making contact with mine. I wrapped my arms around him, giving myself over to the kiss.
This was how it was meant to-Pain ricocheted though my body. I fell back with a gasp, looking down to see the hilt of a knife poking out from my stomach.
I looked up at Peter, not wanting to believe it.He looked at me- emotionless.
I gripped the hilt of the knife, stumbling to the deck, my thoughts blurring. Dizziness rushed to my mind as blood seeped from the wound.
He had won.
