Amara POV
I braced myself for the pain I knew was sure to come.
But it never did.
"I said start the extraction!" Anastasia screeched.
Still nothing.I laughed quietly. "Technical difficulties?"
Anastasia threw a glare in my direction and whispered something to Peter.
I watched as he left the room.
It was just Anastasia and I."Maybe you've earned a few extra minutes, but don't get too cocky. Your end has only been delayed slightly. This is the work of your little friend, isn't it? What a shame we know her exact location... in fact, Peter is heading that way now."
"No," I breathed. Not Doctor Levine.
Anastasia smiled, crossing over to me and grabbing me by the back of my uniform and dragging me across the room before throwing me down again.
The wall before me began to show footage of a normal street in a normal neighborhood. An average white van was parked, and through the shadows moved an armored form.
I could only watch as Peter threw open the door to the van and pulled a petite woman from the van, slamming her to the ground.
Anastasia brought her hand to her ear.
"Kill her."I watched with horror as Peter reached out, took Doctor Levine's head in his hands, and snapped her neck.
"No!" I screamed, watching the light fade from her eyes.
Green lightning leapt from my body, encasing me in its electric cocoon.Anastasia laughed, looking at me. "What a beautiful little light show. Now let's proceed."
She began jogging to the doors.
Once she had left they would start the extraction process.
I couldn't let her leave.I began to army crawl towards the nearest weapon. My pistol.
She was so close...I reached out and cocked the weapon, aimed, and shot.
The bullet pinged off Anastasia's back, not breaking though her armor but exerting enough force to knock her to the ground.
She turned around, growling lowly, like some kind of animal.
I smirked, letting another bullet loose. This one hit her shoulder, causing her arm to give out.
I emptied the pistol, before throwing it aside.Anastasia peeled herself off the ground, her white suit speckled with scorch marks from my bullets.
"Looks like you're out of bullets." She ran towards me, her foot aimed towards my ribs.
I threw myself out of the way and she skidded into the wall, barely stopping herself in time.
"Oops." I muttered as she spun around to face me. I watched as her eyes zeroed on on one of the rifles lying on the floor.
Oh no you don't...
She dove for it, and just as her hand made contact with the weapon I let tendrils of energy surge towards it- melting the weapon in her hand.
She screamed, yanking her hand away.
"Isn't this amusing?" I smiled.
She growled, reaching into her belt for the knife that had been secured there.
Key words: had been
I chucked the knife, and it bounced off her breastplate.
"Nice try." She smiled, running towards me once again, having scooped the knife up from the ground.
