I stared blankly at my reflection.

I was covered in bruises, and I had a swelling black eye, but I was okay. I was dreading going to school today because I didnt want to face Gerard and his friends. I'd been 'sick' for the past three days but I couldn't afford to miss much more school.

Along with the bruises, I also had a week of detention for throwing the first punch. Great. I quickly brushed my teeth and messed with my hair before grabbing my backpack and slumping outside.

I hardly got any sleep that night so I just planned to sleep through the whole day. My plan was going well until the third class where Gerard and I were called to the Principals office. I groaned and slowly started to walk to the office, dragging my feet along. I wasn't in a hurry.

Gerard caught up with me as we stood outside the door, visibly pissed. He glared down at me angrily, then dug his nails into my arm and yanked it towards him.
"Ow! Gerard what-" I started but he interrupted me.

"Did you snitch?" I looked up at him, shocked and pulled my arm away, rubbing at the growing mark he had left.

"No. They wouldn't believe me anyways." I mumbled, stepping away from him as the door opened to reveal our Principal.

"Frank. Gerard. Come inside and have a seat," he instructed, gesturing towards two plastic seats in front of his desk.
Once we were seated he pulled out a large black file. He pulled out a few pieces of paper held together by staples. He shuffled the paper a little bit, before flipping it open.

"Okay. It's a known fact that you two don't really get along well," he pointed at some writing.

"Here. You two often get into physical and verbal fights." He turned the paper around to show us. Wow, that many? I'm impressed. Gerard rolled his eyes and started fiddling with his watch.

"Here at Bellville we want to limit violence. But we believe in second or... fifth chances so you won't be punished too harshly." I wondered where he was going with this.

"So, we've devised a 'buddy programme' for you two. You two will spend time together and hopefully break the tension. You might even find that you both have lots in common!"

I felt my jaw drop. I looked over to Gerard who was fuming.

Gerard slammed his fists on the table and stood up, shoving his chair into the wall as he did so.

"No. I don't wanna have to talk to that freak!" He spat, shaking his head.

"Gerard, sit down, please. You don't have a choice in the matter. We've already talked to your parents and your Dad, Frank, and they've set up some time for you two to bond. Starting tonight, Frank, you'll go to Gerards house." I bit my lip and sighed.

"Whatever. Fine." Gerard mumbled, standing up violently and storming out. I nodded at the Principal and slumped out into the hall.

After school I reluctantly walked to Gerards locker. I was nervous, picking at the skin around my nails.

"Hi, Gerard." I muttered. He grunted, ignoring me and continuing to grab his books. After a minute or so he slammed his locker door shut and faced me.

"You must have fucked up pretty bad this time, Iero. God, I can't believe we have to do this stupid buddy crap," he growled, facepalming.
"And don't think we're friends. I'm only doing this 'cause I can't get kicked out," I nodded and looked down at my feet.

"Let's go then." He shoved me lightly and started walking towards the exit. I followed him outside.
