Xara's POV.
We haven't said another word to one another until the pizza was ready. Then Romeo quickly got up and rushed to the over, and I watched as he carefully pulled out a metal plate with the food on it. The plaid wrapped around his hands protected him from the heat all the while he carried the pizza to the counter. Then he grabbed the knife and began to cut it in small triangles. The scent of the foot hit my nose and my stomach grumbled.
He truly was a natural at cooking.
"Is it ready then?" I asked and pushed myself onto my feet. Silent screeching of a spider scratched my ears but right now it didn't really matter. Nothing and nobody would ever get inside unless we wanted them.
"Yeah, sure, it is." My friend replied and grabbed two plates, not even looking at me. "Go wash your hands, I'll just put it on our plates."
I huffed and rolled my eyes. 'Wash your hands'? Who was he, my mom? With a chuckle on my lips I went to the sink and washed them throughoutly, even using a bar of soap. Who the hell actually washes their hands these days? All people use silverware to eat, and only kids tend to bite and lick their dirty hands! But since it was a request from my companion, it didn't hurt to do it now.
When I turned around I saw a plate with a delicious slice of pizza smile at me. It truly did look warm and so beautiful that for a second I even wondered if it was actually meant to be eaten. But the smell... Oh damn, I had never smelled anything better in my life!
"You know what, if you cooked this way for John Doe, it won't be surprising if he doesn't want to let you go." I muttered in disbelief. Come on, the devil doctor was bound to use talented prisoners like Romeo as his personal slaves! I know I would've done it.
"Actually, everything we cooked went to other patients." The redhead replied, washing his hands too. He was very careful about that, using so much soap that his skin looked like it was covered in tiny bubbles. "There's this thing before putting someone through the Final Stage of the reformation, the doctor would ask the patient what they would like to eat and from what I know, you can choose literally anything. Someone once requested a pizza, so I was given a book of recepies and told to get to work."
So, slavery it was.
"Did you like cooking at first?" I asked and reached for the pizza slice. It was supposed to be eaten without forks or knives, right? "Knowing you, must've been very boring. All this stirring and boiling and slicing..."
"Yeah, I hated it." Romeo nodded and folded his slice in a special way, taking a huge bite. His eyes closed and he purred happily. "What a fool I was... This is amazing."
"See?" I giggled and took a bite myself. Oh, Lord! The taste literally exploded in my mouth, sour from the tomatoes and sweet from the pineapples and salty from the cheese. I shivered and moved my head away, giggling when long strings of molten cheese stretched between the slice and the piece inside my mouth. My teeth bit them off and I swallowed, closing my eyes.
This was the best food ever. It was still hot and now half of my tongue was in pain and couldn't feel a thing, but it was worth it. The food was truly delicious, and I didn't hesitate before taking another bite. And then another. The sweetness of the puneapple was unusual to my remaining taste buds, but it wasn't bad. In fact, it only made everything taste much better.
"Wow." My friend laughed at me but I just ignored that. In exchange for this piece of heaven I was going to forgive him for every laugh and every taunt. "You really like it, huh?"
"Won't found fo furpwised." I shook my head while chewing, and my stomach felt very good. It was getting used to being pampered every day. "You wnow you'we wood af whif."
