THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND DRAMATIC AND CAN I JUST CRI...

Xara's POV.

I woke up because of the knock on the front door. At first my head was far too heavy to lift it, so all I did was murmur something and burrow deeper in the blanket. My eyelids were very, very heavy as well, so I didn't even bother trying to look around and actually do anything. It was far too early for something to go wrong.

Just as I began drifting off back to my beauty sleep, the knock repeated, louder this time. Only then was it finally enough for an alarm to ring through my body and for my eyes to snap widely open, primal fear curling in a ball somewhere in my body. The memories of the horrible fight attacked once again, and I bet it wasn't all that surprising that as soon as I recalled the monstrous legs of the spider my fear turned into a full-on panic.

I jumped up, my eyes locked on the door to my room. In my side view I noticed Romeo's petrified gaze and the way he pressed his plaid tighter to his chest, his breathing fast. We were both startled by the sound, having not expected it at all.

It repeated again, much louder this time, and I could swear I heard a voice call out my name. Strange enough, but it was enough to pull me out of the pool of dread and despair I had so willingly jumped into.

I shook my head and took a deep breath, trying to force common sense in my thoughts. Okay, it worked a little. The panic grumbled and went away, probably waiting for another, better, time to attack. With a final inhale my mind seemed to snap out of the stun it had been in and start working like an old redstone mechanism.

I nodded and glanced at Romeo, only to see that he wasn't so good at pulling himself together. His grey eyes as wide as sausepans, tears glimmering in them and horrible shakes attacking his body, he looked terrified. His pale skin turned even paler, his hands clenched his plaid as tightly as possible, and in the wordless gaze he gave me I understood everything.
