It was now Friday night and Jamal was in his room examining himself in the mirror. He was clad in his suit and tie and a satisfied smile appeared on his face as he noted his handsomeness.
His parents walked into his room. "Hey son."
Jamal turned to face them. "Oh hey."
"Oh my!" Mrs. Turner gushed. "Baby, you look amazing!"
Jamal smiled. "Thanks mom."
"Who's the lucky girl?" his dad asked.
Jamal rolled his eyes. "I already told you guys, I don't have a date."
"Jamal, all your friends have dates. Don't you think you should try to talk to a girl?" his mom insisted.
"I'm not interested in that right now, mom. Besides, I promised that I would help the principal."
His mother put her hands up in surrender, respecting his choice. "Alright, we won't pressure you into dating."
"Thank you."
"If you're not focused on dating, I hope you're focused on your grades," his father interjected.
Jamal looked at him earnestly. "Of course I am. You know that I'm trying to be valedictorian."
"And are you likely going to be valedictorian?"
"Yeah, I think so."
His parents clapped at that great news. His mother kissed him on the cheek. "I'm so proud of you, Jamal! Despite all the nonsense that's happened this past month, you haven't lost yourself."
Jamal nodded his head. "Yeah, thanks mom." He checked the time. "I have to go."
"What? It's early!"
"I know, but I have to help set some stuff up," Jamal said while grabbing his stuff.
"You sure you don't want us to drive you?" his dad offered.
"It's fine dad. Ruby's dad is going to pick us up so you don't have to worry about that either."
"Alright then. Enjoy yourself son."
"And take pictures!" his mother chirped.
"I will," Jamal said and then he left his room. He walked downstairs and then left his house, off to homecoming.

Forty minutes later, Cesar was dressed in his suit and tie. He stared at himself and smiled, proud of the outcome. He cleaned up nicely.
"Come on, let me see you hermano!" Spooky shouted from the living room.
Cesar sighed and went to the living room. Spooky looked at his brother in astonishment. "Woah. Damn!"
