To be fair, I think we're all a little bit different

Monse, Ruby, and Jamal were walking home. "We actually survived the school day," Jamal stated in a surprised tone.

"I'm just as surprised as you are. I was getting nothing but death stares," Monse replied.

"Meanwhile, I was getting hassled by my ex girlfriend," Ruby said with a huff.

"Yeah, I think we can all agree that today was pretty shitty," Jamal concluded.

"I guess it's a good thing Cesar isn't coming to school. I don't think he would want to deal with this," Ruby told them.

"Speaking of Cesar..." Monse started. "Latrelle's homies are looking for him."

"Well of course, he did escape," Jamal said, unsurprised.

Monse sighed and stared at the ground. "Yeah I know. I'm just worried. People are starting to question us."

Ruby halted and saluted them. "Don't worry, Santo Ruby is on duty!" Jamal and Monse just rolled their eyes. "Speaking of Santo, I need to go get ready for this party. You guys sure you don't wanna come?"

"Positive."

Ruby shrugged. "Suit yourself. I'll see you guys tomorrow."

Monse hugged him tight. "Please stay safe, Ruby. I don't wanna have to rescue you too."

Ruby snorted. "You don't gotta worry about me, Monse. I told you that I eat Prophets for breakfast."

He gave Jamal a bro hug and then walked off.

The two friends watched him disappear into the distance. A small chuckle escaped Monse's lips. She adored Ruby. "He's crazy."

"I know. That's why I love him," Jamal replied wholeheartedly. They continued walking.

"So what are you going to do?" Monse asked.

Jamal shrugged and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Probably just go to the library for a while."

"The library?" Monse laughed. "You're a dork."

"Oh shut up!" Jamal swatted her on the arm playfully. She giggled. "I'm actually trying to keep my grades up. I'm trying to be valedictorian."

Monse looked at him curiously. "Oh?"

"Why do you sound upset about that?" Jamal asked.

"I'm not. It's just that...I was more than likely going to be valedictorian at my old school."

"Oh..." is all Jamal said.

"And that's still a dream of mine, but-"

"Monse I'm sorry, I didn't know," he apologized.
