Cesar, Ruby, Jamal, and Isabella made this move to Freeridge worthwhile. I don't regret it

It was now a week later. Monse was in her bedroom getting ready for Isabella's funeral. She put on her black dress and heels and looked at herself in the mirror and sighed. She was really about to say goodbye to Isabella one last time. She was really about to lay her best friend to rest and she wasn't sure if she'd be able to go through with it.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated. It was Cesar.

CESAR : How you feeling?

MONSE : Sad. I miss her more and more every day.

CESAR : We'll get through this. We have to be strong for Ruby. He has it harder than the rest of us.

MONSE : Yeah I guess he does. Is he coming?

CESAR : Of course. He wouldn't miss this for the world.

MONSE : Well I'll see you guys there.

CESAR : Okay. I love you.

MONSE : I love you too.

Monse locked her phone and let out a gloomy sigh. This was going to be harder than she thought.

"Monse, you ready?!" her father shouted from downstairs.

Monse went downstairs and saw her father standing in the middle of the living room. "Yeah I'm ready."

Her father hugged her tight and rocked back and forth. He knew his baby girl was going through a world of hurt right now. "I'm sorry, Monse. I know this must be hard for you."

"It's hard for all of us."

"I know. When we moved here, I didn't know all of this chaos was going to happen," her father told her. "You've seen more death and violence here in a month than you did in sixteen years in NY."

Monse shrugged sadly. "I'm used to it now."

"You shouldn't be. I'm sorry for forcing you to move here. You were better off in NY with Kayla."

"Believe it or not, I like it here dad," Monse confessed to his surprise.

"What?"

"Yeah I've seen a lot of bad things, but I met the most amazing people here. Cesar, Ruby, Jamal, and Isabella made this move to Freeridge worthwhile. I don't regret it."

Monty mustered a smile. "That's very sweet, Monse."

Monse looked down at the floor as she spoke. "It just sucks that we have to lay one of them to rest today. She deserved better."

Tears started running down her cheeks. Monty held her again. "Oh honey. I'm so sorry. It gets easier, I promise."

"Does it?" Monse doubted. "Because it hasn't gotten easier yet."
