"What do we do now?" Ivar asked, but Aila remained silent. "What do we do with them?" He turned to where Aila's brother and his men were. "Do we fight their fight?"
What do we do now? Bloodeye asked herself. What could they do now? What could she do now? Nothing, most like, at least no more than running back to Norway. Even if they did, Aila knew that her own flesh and blood would hunt her until the end of time.
"Why not just leave?" Hvitserk asked.
There is it. "Because he would find us." Aila said lowly. Hatred filled Aelas. It was what drove him now. Hatred and pain. "He found Kattegat, no? I was stupid enough to be lured out onto the lake. Do you remember?"
Ivar raised a brow. "I remember my vow to kill him." He said with a smirk.
"What have you planned to do next?" Aila asked him. "We can't return to Kattegat. Where else can we go?"
"King Harald." Boneless said. "We make an alliance with him," He said, and Aila raised a brow and quickly glanced over to Hvitserk who only shrugged and smiled faintly, and Ivar continued. "we use him, and we take back Kattegat."
Again, Aila turned to Hvitserk. She glanced back and forth between the brothers in horror, not at what Ivar was suggesting, but rather at his lack of intelligence. "Must your whole lives revolve around that damned city?" She asked, raising her voice in disbelief.
"Kattegat will be mine someday." Said Ivar. "It is what my father wanted. And what I want."
"Oh, it's-" Aila sighed, closing her eyes as she pinched the bridge of her knows. She prayed to all the Gods for the strength to not punch the cripple. "That city will be the end of me." She whispered, sighing.
What else could she do but follow Ivar?
Aila turned to where Avan and his men were. "We will bring them with us. We can't leave them here, they risked their lives for us." She nodded at Hvitserk and he agreed,
"They're great fighters, Ivar."
"Avan once told me that we would be amazed by their people's skill in battle. He has men loyal to him alone. We could use them in the war that's coming. What do you say?"
"I trust you." Ivar said softly. "And I support any decision you make. But make no mistake, if he as much as breathes suspiciously I will kill him, myself."
Bloodeye narrowed hee blood red eyes at Ivar. "You will do no such thing lest I break your bones, myself." She said sternly, earning a wide eyed glance from Hvitserk and a threatening look from Ivar. "Do not cast that look." Aila said, even harsher now. "We'll take them with us. Let them rest, gather their strength up, then maybe they can return to their city and bring back more men."
Hvitsek was the one to point out, "We don't even know where their city is."
"That holds no meaning. I trust him." Aila said, softening her voice.
