The Victor Part 4

We have returned to District 7, there was a grand celebration in the square the whole district received food and gifts which made me happy. The small children running around holding candy, new clothes and toys their eyes gleaming like children’s eyes should. I walked into my new house in the Victors’ Village with my family. Weeks following my return I received multiple gifts of food or clothes made by the families of the district. Mamie and her family come over dinner often. Mamie loves talking with me and my new voice.

Many people are interested in my new voice. Girls who were mean to me apologised, they wanted to be friends. I forgave them but was not interested in being friends with them.

Tyler has his own house but he stills lives with his family. He is now the second victor in the family and is safe from the hunger game. His family won’t have to be worried about the games for years to come.

Tyler and I see each other every day. He mainly comes over to my house or we both go to his own house. He teaches me how to pronounce words since I’ve only ever heard them and signed them. He laughs a lot at how I try to pronounce the simplest of words. His laughter isn’t degrading it’s more to ease my stress of getting it right the first time. This is the activity that we do the most while together.

‘Bug’ he signs

“Bug” he says

“b-ud” I try

“B-ug” he says slower

“b-ug” I copy

“Bug” he says again

“Bug” I say and smile.
