What is more Godly than food?
Saint Lawrence would be proud
Of the sinewy muscle
Tendered for a ripe christening.
Like the anointment of Christ's feet,
The slabs are bathed and rubbed, then
A massage of earth; simple balance-
Yin and yang. Before the gaping black
Maw of scalding heat dies, the white
Jaws of warmth embrace Jesus-Judas kissing
Him on the cheek.
A crack, an avalanche,
Cascading into an open valey of cows.
The snow melts, spring comes to bear,
But not before the rain floods strip
The pasture in a drunken daze.
Moses pools his staff into the river,
Turning the Nile into a drunkard.
At last, holy Mary, holding roses
To crown the king in thorns.
Enjoy with a nice arugula salad
Paired with a vinaigrette of your choice.
