OUAT Ch17
(David)Seven hours. It's been seven hours since Killian came back, and he still has not said a word. The look on his face brings pain to everyone. Especially me. I know what it's like for your true love to forget you; it's not a good feeling. His eyes stare at the floor, full of tears, yet none fall. He hasn't moved since he came in and sat down. All hope he had has been drained out of him along with the energy. Emma needs to remember him, and quick. I don't think Killian will last long without her. And none of us can bear the his depression much longer.
After Killian came back and sat down silently, a nurse came and explained what happened with Emma. The woman looked worried. She whispered news to me, "She's in a lot of pain. Seeing Killian made her start to remember, however that part of her brain is damaged. So her brain is working against itself. Trying to remember, and trying to destroy the memories all together. She had a panic attack. I don't know if you heard her or not, but her screams were blood curdling. It's a good think your wife didn't see it." She paused for a moment and said a silent prayer of thanks. "I wish Killian wouldn't have seen it, but there's was no stopping it. His sight is what caused it.. But it is not his fault. I assume he will be troubled for a while. Give him time."
I gave him seven hours and he still hasn't said anything or done anything. I can't even tell if he's breathing. Honestly I am truly sorry for him.
Someone taps on the window behind me, I turn and see Dr. Whale. A serious expression on his face. Killian doesn't even look up. I sigh and stand up, to talk to Whale alone in the hall.
"How is she?" I ask desperately.
"We did everything we could. As of right now she's sleeping." Even he looks grim.
"When can we see her?" I ask glumly.
He shakes his head, "Not for a while, we are going to do a questioning, to check her memory. It probably won't be until tomorrow."
"Alright just.. Uh- keep us posted." I nod gratefully then step back into the waiting room. Regina, Mary Margret, and Henry all look up at me expecting news.
(Dr. Whale)
The small tan room has a comfortable feel. The lighting is dim and the colors are light so nothing in the room triggers headaches.
There's three pieces of furniture. A simple wooden table with a chair on each side. All of them are painted the same shade of dark brown.
On the desk is a plain white envelope. Inside of it is something that can hopefully reunite a family. It's full of pictures that might seem simple for any other person, but when shown to the right person they can change lives.
Emma has been asleep for three hours. The nurses just woke her up for the difficult task of getting her into a wheel chair. Soon she will be wheeled in her for a memory check.
It should be any minute now. I check my wrist watch 5:29. She was scheduled for 5:30. I tap the desk impatiently. This is one of my least favorite things as a doctor. If I can not help Emma remember it will be my fault that she isn't herself anymore.
The door swing open slowly and Georgia wheels Emma in slowly. Honestly she looks horrible. I am very surprised that they were able to get her in the wheelchair.
"Here you go baby. You just have to answer a few questions then we'll get you back to bed." Georgia says softly.
Emma moans as she is wheeled up to the table. I clear my throat, "Hello Emma. Sorry we had to wake you, however I need you to answer a few questions. Don't worry they aren't hard."
She nods very softly. I pick up the envelope and begin. The first picture is of her and Henry on the day she came back. I lift it up to her. "Can you tell me about this picture?" I say.
She slurs her words, but who wouldn't after brain surgery. "It's.. Hinry an- me in grannies an were.." She stops. A blank look fills her face.
I sigh and move onto the next pictures. They are all old picture of her, Snow, Charming, and Henry. She remembers all of these fine.
"Okay Emma, last one. Don't overthink it." I think my heart stops. This is what it all comes down to.
I look at the last picture. a simple Polaroid of Killian cooking. Mary Margret told me everything about the memory so I would be able to know if she remembers anything at all.
It's from when they were cooking thanksgiving diner. After Emma came back. Even if she just remember who it is, that would be very helpful.
I hold it up and her blank look changes to confusion. She starts to shout, "I can't remember him okay?! Stop making me feel guilty! He's just some guy! I am not in love with him!" She starts to sob; I push the small button on the wall, barely noticeable, and Georgia comes running in.
She sees Emma and sighs, "Oh honey. It's okay. I think we're done for today, let's get you back to bed."
She wheels her out of the room leaving me alone to feel like the failure I am.
