Surprisingly, interning at the college feels a lot like a normal job. All of the other professors and secretaries treat David and I nicely. I expected them to long down on us, considering that's how I've been treated in the past by high school teachers when I asked to help in the front office.

David and I haven't seen much of each other today, considering we've both been doing things around and outside of the main faculty office. I have, however, gotten the chance to properly introduce myself. He didn't see my face at the coffee shop so I don't think he recognized me, or if he did he didn't say anything.

I'm honestly surprised that David wants to become a professor. He really doesn't seem like the type to teach at a college.

Walking back to the main office, I feel my phone buzz in my pocket.

I reply back to James as I open the door, bumping straight into David. He drops the stack of papers he was holding and I put my phone back in my pocket, bending down to help him pick everything up.

"I'm so sorry, I have a tendency to be a klutz," I say shyly, quickly picking up the papers.

"I've noticed. The first time I met you, you ran straight into me," he says, chuckling.

I'm confused for a moment, before I realize that he's talking about when I slipped the tracker into his pocket.

"I-I was hoping you would have forgotten," I mumble, handing him back his papers.

"If only you could be so lucky. But don't worry about it, I've had my share of clumsy encounters," he pauses, standing up. "Thanks for the help around here by the way."

"Oh, it's no problem. I just really need the experience. I want to become a Liberal Arts Professor," I say, standing up and brushing off the dust on my pants.

"Oh, that's right! I'm pretty sure you're in my English 1a class."

"Oh yeah! Small world, huh?"

He shuffles the papers around, putting them back in the right order. "Yeah it is. But, that's really cool, becoming a liberal arts professor I mean. I wanna teach philosophy. I find it super intriguing."

"A philosophy professor? That's pretty cool."

"Yeah, thanks. I'm heading out now, but I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah, for sure!" I walk into the back of the office, turning around to give David a small wave.

"Hey Layla," one of the secretaries calls, motioning me over.

I walk over to her desk, giving her a "what's up" look.

"I have your schedule for when you'll be here January and February. If you want, I can print it out for you before you head out?" she asks, pulling up the schedule on her computer.

"Yeah, that'd be great!" I say, giving her a kind smile.

As she's printing my schedule out, I drum my fingers against the counter, absentmindedly humming one of the songs my brother used to sing to me.

She hands me my schedule and I thank her, throwing my bag over my shoulder.

She gives me a genuine smile. "You have a really pretty voice."

I pause for a moment before realizing that she's talking to me. "Oh, uh thank you."

She gives me a polite nod before looking back at her computer screen.

Her comment makes a warm, fuzzy feeling envelop me, making my lips curl up into a wide grin. When I was a kid, whenever I would start feeling hopeless or upset, I would sing. But, in all honesty I really wasn't very good. The only person who would always encourage me to continue singing was Steven. That was one of the reasons I always loved being around him.
