"In our right corner, we have Lola forester, nicknamed 'Sweet Pea', our newest fighter!" As I hear the announcer shout the name I had given them, I feel adrenaline flood my veins and I walk up to the ring, my red robe hanging loosely around my shoulders.
I duck under the rope and slide my robe off, handing it to Sarah.
"And in the other corner we have David Miller, nicknamed 'The Reaper', our undefeated champion!" The announcer shouts, making the audience cheer louder. "This is our first male vs. female match. I must say, it's a daring match. Now, who's ready to see a fight?!"
Even though the audience's cheers are nearly deafening, all I can hear is the aggressive pounding of my heart.
I nod at Sarah and step beside the announcer, facing David.
I look at him, unable to really see his face because of the head guard.
"Now, I want a clean fight. You guys know the rules. There will be 8 rounds, although I doubt we'll have to go that many rounds," he pauses, giving me a look as if he knows that I won't last very long. "Now, bump gloves and go to your corners."
I hit his gloves, maybe a bit more aggressively than necessary and walk to my corner hopping up and down, a fire coursing through my veins.
The announcer steps out of the ring, taking a spot at a nearby table. I have no time to mentally prepare myself before the announcer shouts "fight" and a bell dings loudly overhead.
I put my gloves up, guarding my face and circling my opponent. I know I have to use my speed to advantage, it being my only upper hand. David has to be at least twice my weight.
He decides to take first punch and I dodge last second, ducking under his right hook. I make a quick jab at his ribs and jump back, barely avoiding his punch to the back of my head.
"And Sweet Pea gets first hit! The Reaper will have to be careful, she's a fast one," the announcer says, riling up the audience.
I jump to the side, taking a jab towards his face. He blocks it and then I swing at him with a left hook, hitting his ribs once again. He jumps back and puts his hands back up to his face, circling me. I go for a right hook, but he blocks it, hitting me with a jab to my jaw. I'm able to block it to a certain degree, but it still does a number on me.
I suddenly understand why he's undefeated. The raw power in his punches is incredible!
I circle him, keeping myself mobile, never staying in one spot. He goes for another jab, but I block it. Suddenly, he ducks down and hits me in the side, his force nearly knocking the wind out of me. I cough and jump back, avoiding him as much as possible.
Almost on cue, the announcer calls time and Sarah jumps into the ring, sitting me down and wiping my forehead with a towel.
"Are you okay?" she asks, checking my side.
I nod my head, breathing heavily.
"You need to go for his weak spots. Try to get him to open up his neck or expose the side of his head. He always switches his footing between his feet when he's about to swing, watch for that. Make him vulnerable and strike when you can," Sarah says, squirting water in my mouth and then giving me a thumbs up.
She hops back over the rope and the bell dings, indicating the start of the second round. We start circling each other and I keep in mind what Sarah said, watching his hands and keeping his feet withing my sights. I notice him switch his footing and watch for his punch, jumping to the left, blocking his right hook.
I swing for his side, but miss when he jumps back. He swings at my head again and I duck under his punch, noticing how vulnerable his neck is when he hooks.
I drop one of my hands slightly, acting like the exhaustion has caught up with me. He sees the vulnerability in my stance a goes for a right hook. I duck under his hook and uppercut him as hard as I can, almost jumping up with the momentum.
He stumbles backwards, putting his glove on the rope to steady himself. I charge at him, ducking down and landing two body shots on his sides. He regains his posture and goes to retaliate but I jump back in time to avoid his hit.
We circle each other for what feels like forever, both of us on the defense. The announcer calls time and we both go to our corners, already getting worn out.
The next 4 rounds continue like that, both us landing hit after hit on one another. By the 7th round, both of us are exhausted, and barely hanging in there.
Both of us too stubborn to admit defeat, we circle each other, when suddenly, he decides goes for a risky hit, leaving himself vulnerable. I aim for his side, ready to hit it with all my might when I hear a loud bang. I look out to the audience for a split second and I see 3 men aiming a gun towards the ring. Everyone starts screaming and I look to my opponent, both of us sharing confused glances.
I realize that the loud bang we heard was a gunshot and I mentally curse, moving as quickly as I can to the ropes and hopping over them, running to the room where I set my belongings. I grab my handgun, throwing on my leather jacket over my sports bra to cover the bright red and Taking off the head guards, pulling my hoodie up over my face.
I walk back out, trying to blend in with the crowd. I quickly realize that the shooters are nowhere to be seen. I look around, but can't find them anywhere. I take a quick glance at the ring when I spot 3 men sporting all back pushing a gun against David's forehead.
I realize that they took off his headgear, but because of the bright lights, I can't fully see his face. I tiptoe to the other side of the room, hoping that I'll be able to get a better view of the situation.
I knew I had a bad feeling about tonight, now I know why.
"Well, here goes nothing," I whisper to myself, aiming my handgun towards the ring.
Gripping the gun in my hands, I pull the trigger.
Hiiiiiii! As usual, I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I absolutely loved writing the fight scene, even though it's not very good. Don't forget to comment, vote, and follow me!
