It feels like I've been waiting for Sarah for forever, even though it's only been 15 minutes. I pull my leather jacket tighter around me, the light breeze chilling me. I check my phone for the fourth time, when I finally see her black Audi pull into the dim lit parking lot. I give my waist a light pat to remind me of the hand gun I had strapped there, just in case things went south.

As Sarah steps out of the car, I can't help but envy her. You can tell just by looking at her that she's wild at heart. Unlike me, she isn't always focused on work, but rather events like that one that I agreed to accompany her to.

I admire her for that, even though I know that one day that kind of behavior will come back to bite her.

"Hey girl! You look great!" Sarah exclaims, walking up to me. "A little dark and brooding, but I won't judge."

"Gee, thanks," I say, my tone dripping with sarcasm. "What took you so long?"

"Oh, sorry about that. Jordan kept nagging me to take care of something for him," she says, an apologetic expression settling on her face.

I didn't know it at the time, but the person Jordan left me for was Sarah. Even after all this time, their relationship is still going strong. This causes complications however, because Sarah is still involved with Mendoza's business, whereas Jordan left for a rival of ours. Even though Sarah swears to the boss that he won't interfere with any of her missions, I know otherwise.

"So, I trust your judgement and all, but where exactly are we going?" I ask, giving Sarah a curious stare.

"Okay so, I sorta asked Mendoza to tell me about the mission you're working on-," she starts, but I interrupt her mid sentence.

"Sarah! I told you to stop doing that," I groan, putting my hand to my forehead.

"I know! I know! I'm sorry, but I think you'll like where this is going," she says, giving me a hopeful look.

I close my eyes and shake my head. "Fine, but this better be good."

"Okay, recently my source let me in on a little secret. We were talking and they accidentally let slip that David Miller is going to this thing tonight."

"David? You mean the one I'm supposed to be investigating?"

She gives me a sly smirk and puts her hand on her hip. "Yup!"

Knowing that something useful may come out of this night after all brought a sense of determination to stir within me.

I feel a shiver crawl up my spine, a sudden sense of unease overwhelming me."Okay that's nice and all, but you still haven't told me where exactly we're going tonight."

"Oh right. We're going to a boxing match."

I resist the urge to get in my car and drive back home, knowing that there's some sort of catch.

"A boxing match?" I pause, scrunching my nose. "Let's get going, it's cold out here."

We get in her car and she falls silent. The silence doesn't last long however, because out of nowhere Sarah blurts, "Okay, so I may have signed you up to be one of the boxers."

"What?! You didn't think to tell me this earlier?!" I exclaim, turning towards her as much as I can with the seat belt restricting my movement.

"I know! I'm sorry. I owe a favor to someone and they needed another fighter. I felt like this would be right up your alley!"

I resist the urge to face palm, already feeling agitated. "Sarah... You know how I feel about these sort of things. They're dangerous and pointlessly stupid. It's one of the easiest ways to get in trouble with the cops. I mean, what if someone rats us out?"
