I wake up to mum blowing up my phone and I know word has gotten to her about last night's incident. Fuck! Knowing her, I'm already expecting her pounding my door down to drag Mercy's ass out of here. Knowing her, she will definitely blame everything to Jo.

To my mum, every shit that's happened to our family stems from Josephine.

Mad, I know.

As if right on queue, I hear a series of poundings on my front door as I am pouring myself a cup of coffee in the kitchen. I hastily make my way to the door not wanting to disturb Jo, Mercy and Felix from their sleep and deciding to face mum on my own.

"Where is you sister?" Mum demands the moment I open up the door and she walks past me to the living room, her eyes searching my place.

When she steps towards the hallway leading to the bedrooms, I block her way. "Mum, she's still sleeping. I'll take her back home myself," I assure her, speaking as calmly as I can.

"What happened last night, Hero? Have you even seen the internet? Everyone's calling your sister a drunk... s-slut," she stutters with the last word, barely choking it out through her cracking voice.

I shut my eyes for a second, feeling enraged-not particularly at my mum though, but at the situation in general. I have never thought that I'd see the day that Mercy would be called names. My sweet little sister. It's all so very unfair and I will never understand the need of people to tag someone they know nothing of based merely on a few seconds of video or a single photograph. Mercy was drunk, yes. But she was also very emotional and Sophia's presence forced all her pent-up anger and frustration to the surface. If anything, Sophia is the root of all of these seemingly endless problems and chaos in my life... in my family and with Josephine.

"You know she is nothing remotely close to that mum," I sigh, running my fingers through my still disheveled hair.

"Well I don't know what to think anymore, Hero. Not after what's been going on with you," she snaps, her arms crossing in front of her chest.

"Whatever the bloody hell I do doesn't have anything to do with Mercy. She's a grown ass woman for fuck's sake. She's more than capable to make her own decisions."

"And look where that brought her," she says mockingly. "She spends one night with you and that... co-star of yours and this is what happens. And of all the people, it just had to be Sophia! She's already been through so much lately and Mercy attacking her like that is completely out of line."

I can't help my temper from flaring because of her words. The way her voice turns tender when she's talking about Sophia compared to the way she practically spits her words about Jo is extremely infuriating.

"You don't know the entire story behind whatever the fuck you saw on the internet, mum!" I practically growl.

"Do not curse at me, Hero!" She yells her reprimand.

I hear a door behind me open and Jo's soft voice calling my name. Damn it! I got too caught up with our argument that I wasn't able to control my voice from rising. The last thing I need right now is a confrontation between the three of us.

"Hero? Babe? What's going-," Jo cuts herself off when she stands beside me, taking in the angry glare my mum is giving her.

"Mum's here to fetch Mercy, love. Why don't you go and wake her up, please?" I softly tell her. No, I practically beg her. I don't need her to listen to mum bad-mouthing her right to her face.

"Good morning Mrs. Tiffin," Jo greets mum. The small smile she gives mum is shy and genuine and she doesn't even falter when her greeting isn't returned.
