The night sky is filled with stars tonight, three full moons smiling through the big windows of the Ice Palace. An IceWing sits in front of her egg that was supposed to hatch weeks ago, but tonight is the night. She can feel it.The IceWing with the egg is none other than Queen Snowfall. She's beautiful and regal, her back tall and straight, her eyes determined. She's grown lots from the dragon who used to tease Winter. She's serious now, and she's about to be a mother.
This egg is a heir of two thrones. She isn't just an IceWing, but nobody has to know that. To Snowfall, she's just her daughter. A daughter, yes. Not only does she feel, deep inside her, that this egg is a female, but that's the way the egg was enchanted. A guaranteed heir.
The little egg sits curled up in the queen's tail. The egg will most likely never have a father. But she won't need one. The SeaWing prince she had the egg with is certainly never will be a father figure to this egg.
Snow starts to fall outside. Snowfall clenches her prism necklace, closing her eyes and breathing in. Am I ready for this? Her heart starts to race a bit realizing that this dragonet depends on her. Of course, she knew that— but now, it's more than that: she understands it.
Crack.
Snowfall turns towards the egg, watching it crack open.
Inside, there is a tiny tiny dragonet. Suddenly, all of her worries disappear. Her stress is replaced with love for this dragon. Snowfall scoops her up, the little dragonet reaching for her prism necklace.
The small dragonet is light blue, but her head, tail, and joints are blushed with pink. Her feet and tips of her wings are a deep blue, like a SeaWing. She has glowing scales spotted all over her, and the markings of a royal. Her horns and the spike at the end of her tail are almost like crystals and sparkle like diamonds. She's odd, but that doesn't matter.
"What's your name?" Snowfall smiles at her. "Hm... what about Prism?"
The little dragon sneezes, sitting up and flapping her wings. She frowns with a determined look in her eyes and flaps more.
"Hm... guess not. What about... Frostbite? Oh, you like that. I do, too."
The little dragonet smiles and nibbles on her mother's talon. "Muuurp!"
Snowfall smiles at Frostbite. "My little Frostbite, born on the winter solstice. You'll be perfect for me."
Frostbite reaches up and tugs on the necklace. "Ploof! Meep merp merp!"Snowfall smiles, taking off the necklace and dropping it over Frostbite's head. It's oversized, sure, but she's adorable and she loves it. "I love you, Frostbite. You aren't weird, you are special. No matter what anyone says."
